Story
Classic Zambia Safaris (CZS) came about after the Directors of the already existing and successful companies Jeffery and McKeith Safaris, based in the Kafue National Park, Tusk and Mane Safaris, based in the Lower Zambezi and Reel Nature Ltd (a mobile safari and film crew fixing and support company), saw the joint-goals and shared cumulative benefits of becoming one entity as being greater than continuing in isolation.
The new company aimed to not dilute the products which had been successful to date, but build on them. Behind the scenes the merging of the three originating companies allowed us to reduce costs, time and effort in the logistics and Lusaka-based ‘behind-the-scenes’ operations.
As Tusk and Mane Safaris and Jeffery & McKeith Safaris continued to grow, guests and agents alike began seeking ways to combine both experiences within one itinerary. The alignment was natural: both owner-run operations shared a deep commitment to quality guiding, a true bush-camp ethos, and represented a new generation of classic Zambian safaris that travelers were increasingly drawn to.
Vision
Classic Zambia stands as a beacon of conservation, exceptional safari adventures, and responsible travel. The company drives innovation in conservation, empowers local communities, and shares Africa’s story through the expert eyes of its guides. Its mission is to preserve the magnificence of Africa’s wildlife for generations to come.
Main Goals
Classic Zambia sets the standard for transformative safari experiences that leave a lasting impact.
Values
Classic Zambia is recognized for doing things right—showing respect for the environment, guests, and communities. The company embraces responsibility to the land, wildlife, and people, acknowledging its place in the larger tapestry of life.
By embracing these values, Classic Zambia forges meaningful connections, acting as a beacon of hope for wild spaces. More than a journey, it represents a commitment to the heart of Africa and to guests who seek its true essence.
Conservation is at the heart of what they do, ensuring both nature and local communities thrive together.
Musekese Conservation
Musekese Conservation is a Zambian organisation working with the Department of National Parks & Wildlife in the Kafue National Park. The project’s primary focus is capacity building for effective conservation outcomes. They provide resources and technical support for law enforcement, research and community-based natural resource management. The goal is to contribute to the preservation of wildlife and habitat, whilst promoting sustainable livelihoods for the communities living within and around the Kafue NP. Projects supported by the Musekese Conservation organization are the Recruitment and training of Law Enforcement personnel to combat poaching in Kafue NP, species identification and monitoring, habitat restoration and community engagement and empowering community women to join the ranger forces in the national parks.
Guide Training
They invest in training individuals who are passionate about preserving the natural world, shaping them into ambassadors for Africa's great national parks. Kyle Branch, one of the directors, is a prominent professional guide trainer in Africa. As a co-founder of the TEVETA national accreditation syllabus and examinations for Zambia's professional guides, Kyle is dedicated to training Zambians, including their own group of young, motivated wildlife enthusiasts who often accompany guests on safaris.
Frankfurt Zoological Society - North Luangwa
Though a newer presence in the North Luangwa landscape, Frankfurt Zoological Society demonstrates a strong, enduring commitment to conservation and sustainability. This dedication earned the privilege to operate in this extraordinary wilderness. Conservation drives every action, with a minimum of $20,000 annually contributed directly to FZS projects in the region, going beyond standard park fees and levies.
Female Empowerment
Classic Zambia Safaris acknowledges that the safari industry has historically been male-dominated, especially in guiding and management roles. Recognizing this imbalance, the company actively works to create opportunities for women across all camps. Talented women are recruited, trained, and promoted into positions traditionally reserved for men, from camp management to guiding. Each season sees more women stepping into leadership and field-based roles, enriching the team and enhancing the guest experience. Diversity brings fresh perspectives, empathy, and depth to every safari, offering guests a richer, more meaningful connection to Zambia’s wilderness.
CLZ Support
They are long-standing supporters of the work conducted by the highly efficient and effective conservation organization Conservation Lower Zambezi, or 'CLZ'. Through both financial contributions and in-kind support, they collaborate closely with CLZ and the Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW) to bolster conservation efforts and law enforcement in the wilderness area.
Sustainability
They do not endorse awards or excessive marketing related to being environmentally friendly. They firmly believe that ecological consciousness is an essential aspect of being a safari operator in the present era, considering sustainability as non-negotiable. All their camps operate solely on solar power, including water pumps, eliminating the need for diesel generators. They meticulously manage waste disposal, ensuring selected products are disposed of outside wildlife reserves. Prior to disposal, they procure produce in a sustainably conscious manner, including home-grown vegetables and locally sourced meats, to minimize plastic waste and excess. Their careful procurement and logistics planning reduces unnecessary transport and fuel use, with a focus on purchasing materials and produce from nearby communities.
Human Development
Poaching and other illegal activities often appeal to impoverished communities in nearby villages. By providing employment opportunities and associated livelihood training and skill development, local residents can secure legitimate work and thrive without turning to illegal activities. They take pride in promoting young Zambian talent, offering promising junior staff opportunities to grow and develop within and outside of Classic Zambia.
