Story

Kontiki Expeditions was born from the idea that travel should go beyond sightseeing. Inspired by the Pacific coastlines of Latin America and the growing desire for more meaningful travel experiences, the company set out to create a new category of boutique expedition yachting focused on immersion, authenticity, and connection. After beginning operations along the Ecuadorian coast, Kontiki evolved through continuous refinement of routes, guest experiences, and operational philosophy. This journey eventually led to Costa Rica and Panama, where the biodiversity, culture, and marine richness aligned perfectly with the company’s long-term vision. Today, aboard M/Y Kontiki Wayra, Kontiki Expeditions offers thoughtfully designed voyages that integrate exploration, wellness, conservation, gastronomy, and cultural encounters into one seamless experience.

Through small-scale yacht expeditions across Costa Rica and Panama, Kontiki Expeditions promotes deeper, more respectful connections with nature and culture while minimizing environmental impact. The company works closely with local guides, artisans, producers, and coastal communities, supporting regional economies and authentic cultural exchange.
Sustainability is also integrated into the onboard experience aboard M/Y Kontiki Wayra. The yacht features PET silk carpets made from recycled materials, reusable stainless steel espresso capsules, refillable water bottles and water dispensers, eco-friendly refillable bathroom amenities, and bed linens made with 70% sustainably sourced USA-certified cotton.
Operationally, M/Y Kontiki Wayra incorporates water jet propulsion, an onboard desalination plant for fresh water supply, and responsible residue management and recycling practices reinforcing a long-term commitment to conscious exploration and marine conservation.
