• IDSC Indonesia: As a member of the Indonesian DMC Sustainability Collaboration (IDSC), Khiri Travel supports sustainability and health and safety assessments throughout its supply chain.
• Responsible Hotel Assessment with Hotel Resilient: Khiri Travel collaborates with Hotel Resilient to promote social, environmental, and economic sustainability through Responsible Hotel Criteria and Advanced Sustainable Audits.
• 4Cs Framework: As a member of The Long Run, Khiri Travel demonstrates continuous improvement across the four pillars of Conservation, Community, Culture, and Commerce.
• Khiri Reach: Travel products support projects funded by Khiri Reach, the charity foundation of Khiri Travel, which focuses on grassroots initiatives that benefit communities, animals, and the environment across destination countries.
• Sustainability Commitment: Travel products operate responsibly with zero tolerance for harmful actions toward local communities, children, animals, or the environment. Khiri Travel promotes positive interactions while minimizing negative impacts for everyone involved.

Protecting the Environment

Khiri Travel actively reduces environmental impact through practical sustainability initiatives.

• Reduction of Plastic Waste: Through the Refill Not Landfill initiative, Khiri Travel encourages the use of reusable water bottles and registers destination offices as refill stations whenever possible.
• 4Planet: Khiri Travel Sri Lanka partners with travel agents to introduce reusable 4Planet bottles during trips, helping reduce plastic waste and protect Sri Lanka’s oceans.
• Climate Response: Khiri Travel measures office energy consumption, promotes low-impact transportation, invests in energy-efficient equipment, and encourages electricity conservation to reduce carbon footprints. Most Carbon Offset Fees included in client itineraries fund social and environmental initiatives managed through Khiri Reach across Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, and Cambodia.
• Environmental Awareness: Khiri Travel signs the Global Climate Pledge 2023 as a business organization and encourages staff to commit to climate action individually.

Animal Welfare

Khiri Travel protects animal welfare by following the Global Standards for Animals in Tourism and the Five Freedoms. Wildlife and animal-related excursion providers undergo assessment to ensure animals experience:

• Freedom from hunger and thirst.
• Freedom from discomfort.
• Freedom from pain, injury, or disease.
• Freedom to express normal behavior.
• Freedom from fear and distress.

Khiri Travel also rejects the purchase of animals or wildlife products, particularly endangered species listed by the IUCN Red List and CITES. This includes shells, corals, turtle products, fur, skins, rhino horn, ivory, pangolin scales, endangered-species medicines, shark fin soup, turtle soup, wildlife-based alcoholic beverages, and other products that contribute to illegal wildlife trade.

As a sponsor and member of Too Rare To Wear, Khiri Travel supports global efforts to educate travelers about turtle shell souvenirs and encourage responsible purchasing decisions.
