The story begins with founder John J. Mark, an aviation enthusiast and Air Force veteran from Oshkosh, Wisconsin. After discovering Northern Ontario by plane in 1960, Jack spends the next three decades exploring the boreal forest and developing a deep appreciation for its vast wilderness. In 1990, the purchase of the first outpost cabin marks the beginning of Wilderness North, built on a vision of sharing this unspoiled region with fellow nature lovers and fishing enthusiasts.

Alan and Krista Cheeseman join Wilderness North in 2000 and continue expanding the collection of wilderness properties. Today, the company features three full-service lodges, two housekeeping lodges, ten outpost cabins, and a growing air service that welcomes travelers from around the world. Supported by the next generation of the Cheeseman family and a dedicated team, Wilderness North continues to create authentic wilderness experiences where you explore, fish, relax, and reconnect with nature.

Beyond exceptional fishing, Wilderness North offers scenic bush plane flights across the breathtaking boreal forest.
