Sava Dunes sits on top of the sand dunes along a remote stretch of the Inhambane coastline, with six cottages linked by wooden walkways that run through the low coastal vegetation. The beach is a few meters from the cottages, and the warm water here has a peeling wave suited to bodyboarding and surfing. The Barra and Tofo area is known for ocean safaris, with seasonal sightings of whale sharks, humpback whales, and bottlenose dolphins offshore. The lodge runs entirely on solar power and was designed to keep its carbon footprint low, and guests can take part in beach clean-ups organized by the lodge.
Room Specifications
The lodge has six ensuite cottages: five ocean-facing Beach Cottages and one Garden Cottage for families or groups. All cottages have Starlink Wi-Fi, mosquito nets over the beds, South African plugs, and nightly turn-down service. Bathroom amenities are provided in every cottage.
Amenities & Facilities
The main lodge area has one dining area and two bars: a beach bar serving cocktails and a swim-up bar at the pool, which has its own lounge area. Meals focus on in-season local produce and seafood cooked on the braai (barbecue), and all meals can be adapted for dietary requirements. Spa treatments are available on-site at an additional cost, and sundowners on top of the dunes can be arranged. A small book-swap library and board games are available in the lodge, and basic snorkeling gear and bodyboards are provided for guests to use on the beach, along with beach walks. Children of all ages are welcome, though the lodge does not supply cots or high chairs and has no childminding service. Airport transfers from Inhambane or Vilanculos are available at an extra cost, and self-driving requires a 4x4 vehicle and beach-driving experience.
