Day 1

Feb 16, 2016
I have never ever blogged, and I think I've typed this in 3 times now. Clearly I am doing something wrong!

although the post it titled day 1, I didn't have time to write this until day 4.

Day 1 started with a 5 am flight departing Boston Ina day that would be -28 with wind chill. A great day to head to Belize!
On arriving in Belize City, while my husband waited in the customs line, I slipped into the restroom to change from jeans and a long sleeve shirt into shorts and a tank top. Let vacation begin! Our driver picked us up and started our journey with a stop at the Belize zoo. What a fantastic time we had, and it felt great to stretch our legs. We loved how the zoo was set up, and although I was unable to see all the animals, I was fine with that. I would prefer that to them being in a glass cage with nowhere to hide. Plus, it was fun to try to spot them in their natural setting camouflaged.

then on to Chaa Creek where we were treated like royalty. Cold juice and cool towels awaits us at th reception desk. Someone else made sure our bags made it to our room. We were really on vacation! We enjoyed a much anticipated cold beer in the bar and began to plan our stay. First order of business, sign up for a tour or two. Even though it was a long day, we signed up for the creatures of the night tour after dinner, and the ATM cave tour the following day.

eventhough we didn't see a ton of creatures that night, I loved the tour. A little creeped out by the number of spiders we saw, but hey, we're in the jungle!

Day 3

Today we're going to take it easy. The plan is to do some zip lining in the morning and canoeing in the afternoon. The zip lining was fantastic. The tour we chose had 9 sections, some of them quite long. What a blast. And the day was gorgeous. The previous day had been a bit rainy, which of course didn't matter because we were in a cave. But the zip lining day was gorgeous.
we got back to Chaa Creek and had lunch. My thought was to eat q light lunch, just a salad. Wow. The salad was huge, and the greens all came from the organic farm. Delicious.
instead of canning right away, I decided to go on the horseback ride tour while my husband (with bad knees) took the atv tour. We covered a lot of the same are. We both really enjoyed our tours, and we got to choose our mode of transportation. To end the day we decided on a sunset canoe ride up river. Fabulous.

Day 7

Stormy morning
Stormy morning (VeeAnn Cross)
Well, today was supposed to be the fishing day. And while Steve was fishing, I was going to go snorkeling. But the weather was awful. Or at least it started out that way. My snorkeling trip was cancelled, but Steve did try to go fishing. They got hammere, so he came home looking a bit like a drowned rat. After a quick shower, we walked over so he could have breakfast. While we were trying to decide what to do, the front passed. The water was still kind of rough, but Steve decided to try fishing again. He was able to get a hold of the guide and go out. While he was fishing I went for a nice long kayak, and then enjoyed a couple of beers while sitting in the sun and reading a book. When Steve got back he had a big smile on his face. He caught several large barracuda and a tarpon. But more importantly, he had fun. We finished the night by taking a cab and having dinner in Placencia.
