Tubagua Ecolodge is owned and operated by a Dominican Canadian family who have lived in the town of Tubagua for 15 years. The property sits along the Ruta Panoramica between Santiago and Puerto Plata, surrounded by farms, meadows, and trails leading to natural swimming holes and a coffee-growing village. Ten percent of the lodge's income funds a community food program run by staff, with part of the proceeds donated to local families; this is itemized as a surcharge on guest invoices rather than built into room rates. Tubagua Ecolodge is a Gold member of TripAdvisor's GreenLeader Program and has received the national Atabey Environmental Award in the Dominican Republic.
