Mahogany Springs Lodge

Mahogany Springs sits in gardens above the Munyanga River on the edge of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to more than half of the world’s mountain gorillas. The lodge opened in 2011 and is run by General Manager Subedi, its former Head Chef, who has been with the property since the start. Most of the staff are recruited locally. The main building stands on a hillside, with a panoramic terrace facing the forest. The lodge supports Ride4aWoman, a local charity that trains widows and makes curtains, mosquito nets, and cushions for the lodge, and the Bwindi Plus Nursery and Primary Orphanage School, founded in 2015 by a member of the housekeeping team. Both are a two-minute walk away and open to guests at no cost. Guests can also plant an endemic tree on the grounds to offset their carbon footprint.

Rooms & Suites
All accommodation at Mahogany Springs is in suites, with 12 Superior Deluxe Suites and 2 Premium Deluxe Suites. Every suite has a private terrace and an en-suite bathroom. Beds have mosquito nets, and each suite has electricity, lighting, charging points, and hot running water. Superior Deluxe Suites have high ceilings and walk-in terracotta showers, and the Premium Deluxe Suites add a lounge, fireplace, and hot tub. Private dining can be arranged on the suite balcony, and massages are available in-room from the lodge’s in-house masseuse.

Hotel Amenities & Facilities
The lodge has one restaurant and one bar. The restaurant serves internationally inspired dishes, with seating inside or on the terrace, and private dining is available by the river. The bar stocks wines, beers, spirits, cocktails, and soft drinks. Rates are full board and include bottled water and one glass of house wine, a beer, or a soft drink with dinner; an all-inclusive house drinks package is available on request. The main building has a refurbished living room with sofas by the fire and a gift shop selling locally made crafts, clothing, and Ugandan souvenirs, which guests can pre-order for delivery to their suite at check-in. The Opatra London Spa has two treatment rooms, a private terrace, and a reception area, offering massages, foot treatments before and after gorilla trekking, and facials.
