You will experience a charming welcome to Colonia, Uruguay during your stay at Hotel Plaza Mayor. Its heritage is noticed in its use of tiles, mud and stone in Spanish and Portuguese styles. Among the historic walls of Colonia you can find the warm hotel of Hotel Plaza Mayor.

The hotel is a quiet and magical place built in a 1860 historic house on a historic Portuguese ranch. A central courtyard garden welcomes all guests with rich floral-scapes and a beautiful fountain to commemorate former spanish patios along with the constant sound of water.

Location
The Hotel Plaza Mayor is located in the main part of a favoured zone - "The Old City". Founded in 1680 by the Portuguese, it still preserves part of its original buildings and narrow streets which meander in the search of the river. Colonia del Sacramento was recently declared a "World Heritage" by UNESCO.

Visitors to Colonia feel a nostalgic air from its paved streets, the yellow lanterns hanging in the doors, the flowery flowerpots standing in the windows and a lonely lighthouse looking over the river which surrounds the old city. A real charm that equally captures all who visit this charming city.

Our guide and driver were very good with their knowledge and were very helpful with our questions. It was a very pleasant visit that would have been impossible to do on our own. Hotels and restaurants were fantastic. The special places we got to go to, like the kitchens, were great. Enjoyed the entire trip!
