Zimbabwe's Stimala Star offers discerning travelers a truly unique, memorable way to arrive on safari in Hwange National Park. The recently refurbished Stimela, meaning "train" in the local language, is an overnight sleeper train that links with the regular Victoria Falls to Bulawayo passenger train, transporting guests in old-fashioned style overnight from Victoria Falls Falls to Hwange National Park. The carriages date back to the post-WWII era, and have been lovingly restored to evoke the glory days of leisurely train travel but in true vintage yet modern comfort.
The train's cabins carry a maximum 24 passengers in either twin- or single-bed coupés with shared bathrooms at the end of each sleeper car.
Riders are treated to both dinner and breakfast, as well as refreshments and midnight snacks for those night owls. Following dinner guests can enjoy an entertainment program put on by Stimela's trained safari guides before retiring to bed, rocking to sleep in a way that is unique only to train travel.
