Day 1: Arrive Iquitos | Embark on the Amazon River

Meet your guides at the airport and transfer all together in your comfortable private vehicle over a paved road to the main wharf to board the Zafiro. Once on board, the staff introduces you to your stylish suite, specially equipped with all the amenities.

While the Zafiro begins its primary navigation, enjoy the most fantastic panoramic views from the gracefully interior lounge located on the third deck. Salute your journey with the fine South American wine that accompanies the Amazonia-influenced cuisine of Jungle Experiences.

Day 2: Amazon River | Kukama Reserve (Yanayacu of Yucapana) | Source of the Amazon | Marañon River | Puerto Prado Community | Nauta Creek

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Catch your first glimpse of the Amazon as you enjoy early birdwatching along the river. Observe monkeys, parrots, macaws, and learn more about nature.

After breakfast, the Zafiro skirts the edges of Pacaya-Samiria Reserve, a flooded forest covering five million acres at the headwaters of the Amazon basin. Board your comfortable excursion skiffs for your expedition on the confluence where the Maranon and Ucayali Rivers join together forming the mighty Amazon River. Nature here appears especially dramatic: birdsong accompanies your morning excursion as you glide past river banks inhabited by large-billed terns, laughing falcons, gray tanagers, and countless colorful birds. Explore the first river that flows into Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, Piranha Creek, in search of wildlife. This area is known as the parrot-parakeet paradise.

Take a late afternoon excursion to Nauta Creek within Pacaya-Samiria Reserve, which is known as the mirrored forest, which makes perfect sense as you gaze upon its glistening black water lagoons. Your naturalist guides use their eagle eyes to help you spot toucans, parrots, and macaws overhead, and iguanas, sloths, and monkeys among the soaring trees. On the way back to the Zafiro, the glorious sunset is reflected in these glistening waters. Tonight, take a nocturnal boat ride to enjoy a symphony from the night and constellations, as well as search for caimans, tarantulas, boa constrictors, and more.

Day 3: Yanayacu of Pucate | Amazonian National Park

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Early in the morning, start cruising through the Yanayacu and Pucate Rivers, peeking into different creeks and lagoons. This is one of the best-preserved and protected zones of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. This is also a popular dolphin feeding spot so you won´t be the only one enjoying your meal here. If you want to interact directly with the waters of the Amazon, go out on one of the kayaks. You even have the opportunity to swim in the river along with the famous pink dolphins!

Later this afternoon, take a short walk through the forest and overhanging bridges in San Regis (Parque Natural Amazonico) to see a beautiful park full of colorful birds that are native to the area. Following this, have an experience with a native shaman and partake in a tree-planting ceremony.

Before heading back to the Zafiro, take a trip to the Yanaquillo gorge.

Day 4: Marañon River | San Regis | Shiriyacu

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Breakfast and visit the community of San Regis, where we’ll learn about the local people’s way of life and traditions.
Also, learn about their ancestral traditions from the community’s shaman. With your guides as interpreters, ask questions about spiritual connections and curing the soul. Then, continue the ceremony by planting a tree as a positive contribution to the environment. There, you will also see a market set up by women from the community to sell their handmade crafts.

Day 5: Marañon River | Nauta | Casual | Pahuachiro

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Before breakfast, enjoy some early birdwatching. After breakfast, begin your expedition for fishing the famous piranhas into Shiriyacu stream, and walk into the jungle to meet a local healer to learn about complementary medicine from the Amazon and ancestral traditions. This experience gives us the opportunity to formulate questions to the healer and know a bit more about our former traditions.

This afternoon, navigate on a small connector canal between the Ucayali and Maranon Rivers to admire the world’s largest aquatic plant, the giant water lilies, or Victoria regias. Here, become one of a very small number of people who have ever seen these plants bloom. When the night falls, listen to the second movement of the Amazon rainforest symphony, as nocturnal animals send their piercing calls across the canopy trees. As you skiff back to the Zafiro, special spotlight torches help your naturalist guides locate caimans, owls, and capybaras.

Day 6: Ucayali River | Yanallpa del Ucayali |Tapiche River | Dorado River

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Before breakfast, head out on a skiff to the Yanallpa area of the Ucayali River in the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, where you'll see many native animal species.
After breakfast, you'll head back to the Zafiro, explore into Tapiche River and begin your jungle walk guided by your guides to learn about medicinal plants, search for insects, snakes, birds, and more. Here, deep in the primary rainforest, your guides identify for you the fruit trees and medicinal plants that comprise Amazonia’s natural pharmacy.

This evening, take a magical journey aboard the skiffs through the “Mirrored Forest” to see towering trees reflected in the black water river, while on the lookout for enchanting parrots, blue-yellow macaws, as well as the great variety of primates and sloths unperturbed by your presence.

Day 7: Ucayali River | Yarapa of Ucayali (Black Waters) | Amazon River |Tahuayo River |Huaysi Community

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
After breakfast, set out to explore the Yarapa River, where the famous pink and gray river dolphins swim in its black waters.
Back on the Zafiro, see the confluence of the Ucayali and Marañon rivers, which give rise to the Amazon River.
After lunch, take the skiff out on the Amazon River to visit the Huaysi community. There, you'll see how the locals live and learn more about their customs with the guides, who will act as interpreters.

Day 8: Disembark in Iquitos | Transfer to the airport

  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch
After breakfast, begin disembarking. On the way to the airport, stop by the Amazon Rescue Center (CREA), where biologists and volunteers take care of manatees – an endangered species – rescued by the authorities. See how the manatees are cared for and prepped for reinsertion into their natural habitat. Also, get to see other animals that have been rescued from attempts to turn them into pets and other dangerous situations.
Afterward, you’ll be transferred to the airport.
