From Cusco take a flight to Lima and then to the jungle town of Iquitos. This is the heart of the Amazon and the headwaters of the greatest ecological zone on earth. A motor boat takes you 25 miles downstream to the Ceiba Tops Lodge, a beautiful sanctuary with air-conditioned rooms, hot water showers, and a relaxing pool and waterslide! A local guide shares some of the secrets of this ecological treasure as you look for monkeys, tapirs, capybara, macaws, toucans, and more. In the afternoon, hike through the primary rainforest near Ceiba Tops, home to large trees covered in epiphytes. After breakfast, a morning visit to a local indigenous village where your guide will explain the Yagua culture and how it was affected by the arrival of Europeans and the passing of time. You'll also have the opportunity to engage in craft trading or purchase local artisanal products and enjoy a demonstration of the Yagua blowgun, which some in the village still use for hunting.
Join an afternoon boat adventure along the Amazon River, a quest to see either of the incredible pink and gray freshwater dolphins found in the river. Besides dolphin-watching, there's a chance to go fishing and witness the amazing diversity of fish species in the Amazon River, including the notorious piranha. Start your full-day adventure early, departing Ceiba Tops by speedboat. Travel along the Amazon and Napo Rivers to Explorama’s Napo Rainforest Reserve and ExplorNapo Lodge. Along the way, he will share stories and explain the uses of various plants. The Canopy Walkway, a 500-meter suspended bridge, allows you to explore the treetops 35 meters above ground, offering a unique view of the rainforest.
After lunch at ExplorNapo, visit the ReNuPeRu Ethnobotanical Garden, where a shaman will introduce you to over 240 species of medicinal plants. Your guide will translate as the shaman explains their uses and the spiritual healing practices connected to these plants. Return to Ceiba Tops in the afternoon, with time to relax by the pool or in hammocks before dinner.
Day 4: Return to Iquitos
1 Breakfast
Begin your morning with a walk to a lake where massive Victoria Regia lily pads, spanning up to 3 meters, float on the surface. These lily pads are protected by sharp spines underneath, deterring fish. At the lake, look out for Wattled Jacana birds, which use their long toes to walk across the pads. You’ll also spot turtles, part of a yearly repopulation effort. In the afternoon, transfer back to Iquitos.

Good to ideal period to travel, and many people choose to visit at this time.
Chance for unpredictable weather but with fewer visitors.
Our guide and driver were very good with their knowledge and were very helpful with our questions. It was a very pleasant visit that would have been impossible to do on our own. Hotels and restaurants were fantastic. The special places we got to go to, like the kitchens, were great. Enjoyed the entire trip!
I am travelling alone on Bordeaux river cruise. Very prompt and informative responses. No issues.

Adventure Life planned a stunner of a trip for our family ONCE AGAIN! This is our 7th trip with Adventure Life. We chose the Chile North to South adventure with add-ons of Magdalena Island to see the penguins; Las Torres hotel in Patagonia; Calafate, Argentina to see the Perito Moreno glacier and finally, Buenos Aires. We were active every day! Biking in vineyards, trekking at 14,000 ft above sea level and seeing vicuña and vizcacha everywhere after having almost the entire El Tatio geyser park to ourselves, an evening tour viewing the stars and galaxies in the Atacama Desert, River Rafting and hiking between volcanoes and glacial lakes in the mountain lake region of Peurto Varas, hiking the French Valley, Las Torres and riding horses in Torres del Paine National Park in Patagonia, walking on the glacier and drinking glacial water and hearing those thunderous booms of ice calving at Perito Moreno in Calafate, Argentina and biking 30 miles through Buenos Aires to the suburbs where we kayaked the Tigre River Delta. So much fun!! I even wore my adult children out!!
