Join a full-day trek to Laguna de los Tres from El Chalten. Hike 13 miles (21 km) round trip through forested trails and open valleys with clear views of Mt. Fitz Roy. Cross the Rio Blanco before starting a steep 45-minute climb up a 45º slope to reach the glacial lake. The final ascent is demanding but rewarded with one of Patagonia’s most iconic views. At the summit, see the granite spires of Mt. Fitz Roy rise above the turquoise waters of Laguna de los Tres. Take a break for lunch surrounded by snowfields, rocky peaks, and glacier-fed scenery. After soaking in the landscape, descend along the same route back to El Chaltén. This challenging hike combines classic Patagonia trekking with dramatic mountain scenery. Total hiking time is approximately 8 hours. The trail is well-marked but requires good physical condition.

Day 1: Laguna de los Tres Trek

  • 1 Lunch
Awake early this morning to begin a full-day hike to Laguna de los Tres. The first 10 km gradually ascend through open and forested areas, with stunning views of Mt. Fitz Roy as you proceed. Your route crosses the Rio Blanco before you begin the toughest part of your trek - a fifty-minute climb that zigzags up a 45º slope. Your efforts are more than rewarded when you arrive at the eerily still glacial Laguna de Los Tres, where one of Patagonia's (and, quite possibly, the world's) best panoramic vistas stretches out before you! Enjoy lunch and feast on the views of the colossus of granite, ice, and sky, before heading back down to El Chalten for a free evening and a good night's sleep.

8 hrs hiking covering 13 miles (21 km)

This was our first trip to South America and we were a little nervous. But Adventure Life made things so easy! All our questions were answered before we left, and our guide, Vidal, was amazing! He gave us enough space to explore without rushing us along. He also knew where the best picture taking opportunities were, which was great.
