Leroo La Tau

Leroo La Tau, meaning "lion's paw," stands on cliffs more than 10 m (33 ft) above the Boteti River. The river's history is part of the lodge's story. The Boteti stopped short of the lodge in 1988 and was dry by the mid-1990s, leaving a pod of hippos in riverbed waterholes and crocodiles denning in riverbank caves. Record rains in 2009 brought the river past the lodge again. The lodge is a base for the annual zebra migration, when zebra and wildebeest move to the river at the end of winter. Lion, leopard, cheetah, brown and spotted hyena, and Chobe bushbuck live in the area. The lodge has 12 thatched units for up to 24 guests, and the main area has a wooden and thatch finish. Some activities, such as a day trip to Nxai Pan and a sleep-out on the salt pans, need a three-night stay.

Rooms & Suites
Accommodation is in thatched, glass-fronted chalets, each on a raised wooden platform with a private viewing deck and 270-degree views. Rooms are cooled by ceiling fans and do not have air conditioning. A generator supplies power during the day and evening, and each room has multi-adaptor plugs for charging cameras and other devices. The generator is switched off at night, when 12V inverter lighting powers the rooms and bathrooms. Each room has a kettle with tea and coffee, a small passcode safe, a flashlight for night use, and Wi-Fi by satellite link, though a constant connection is not guaranteed. The en-suite bathroom has a shower, hand basin, and toilet, with a small hairdryer and biodegradable soaps and shower gels.

Hotel Amenities & Facilities
The main lounge and dining area has a wooden and thatch finish, and meals are served in indoor and outdoor settings. The lodge has a fully stocked bar, a swimming pool overlooking the Boteti River, and a campfire near the boma on the river cliffs. A game hide below the lodge sits at water level for watching wildlife at the river's edge. A curio shop accepts cash and credit cards, and daily laundry service is included. Drinking water comes from an on-site reverse osmosis plant, and bottled water is available on request. The lodge welcomes children aged 6 and older.
