Machaba Camp

Machaba Camp takes its name from the Setswana word for sycamore fig, known as the tree of life. Set among riverine trees along the Khwai River, the camp features ground-level canvas tents in a classic 1950s safari style. Its removable structures allow the site to be rehabilitated within about 18 months. Solar power, a backup generator, solar-heated water and separate waste-treatment plants support its low-impact operations. The camp welcomes all ages and is in a low-risk malaria area.

Rooms & Suites
Canvas tents each has electric lighting, fans, charging stations, international outlets and a mini safe. There is no air conditioning, and outlets do not support hairdryers or electric shavers; hairdryers are available on request. Limited Wi-Fi is available inside tents. En-suite bathrooms feature double basins, indoor and open-air showers, flush toilets, hot and cold water, and locally made organic bath products.

Hotel Amenities & Facilities
The main tented deck has a bar, lounges, and fire pits. Other facilities include a plunge pool, library and curio shop. In-tent massages and facials are available, along with laundry service. Meals feature seasonal, home-style dishes served as breakfast, brunch, afternoon tea and dinner, with options for boma, poolside, outdoor dining and bush picnics. South African wines accompany dinner. Airport and inter-camp transfers are arranged. Staff include trained first aiders, with 24-hour emergency communication with Maun for air evacuation. As the camp is unfenced, staff escort guests to and from tents after dark.
