Day 1: Fly from Goose Bay to Saglek | Torngat Base Camp

Fly by Twin Otter charter from Goose Bay to Saglek, with a brief refueling stop in Nain and scenic views of Labrador’s rugged landscapes. From Saglek, transfer by Zodiac to Torngat Base Camp, a remote wilderness camp in the heart of Torngat Mountains National Park. After lunch, attend the mandatory Parks Canada briefing and camp orientation before settling into the accommodations.

In the afternoon, join a guided hike to waterfalls or glacier-carved ridgelines, then take part in a photography workshop focused on Arctic wildlife and landscapes. Later, share dinner with local Labrador Inuit guides, learn about regional culture and traditions, and gather around the campfire beneath the northern sky.

Day 2: Jans Haven & Branigan Island | Whales and Polar Bear by Boat

Set out by boat after breakfast to explore Jans Haven and Branigan Island in Torngat Mountains National Park. Cruise along remote Arctic shores as guides search for polar bears along the rocky coastline and minke whales in the clear waters. Watch for marine birds while taking in dramatic cliffs, quiet coves, and rugged tundra. Depending on weather and wildlife conditions, the excursion lasts several hours or a full day, with lunch served on the water.

Return to Torngat Base Camp for an afternoon of relaxation and presentations by Labrador Inuit guides or visiting researchers. Learn about Arctic wildlife, Inuit history, and the region’s ecology before dinner and an evening around the campfire.

Day 3: Rose Island: Archaeology Sites and Wilderness

Travel by Zodiac or longliner to Rose Island in Torngat Mountains National Park, a site of deep cultural and archaeological importance. Explore archaeological sites that reveal how Inuit and pre-Inuit communities lived, hunted, and traveled across the Labrador coast for thousands of years. Watch the shoreline and surrounding waters for polar bears and whales as you explore with local guides. Enjoy a shore lunch before returning to Torngat Base Camp for a hands-on workshop featuring northern-inspired soap making with locally influenced scents. After dinner, gather around the campfire and, on the full expedition, learn about Hebron through a documentary presentation before the next day’s visit.

Day 4: Explore Historic Hebron

After breakfast at Torngat Base Camp, travel north by Zodiac or longliner to the abandoned community of Hebron, a significant site in Labrador Inuit history. As the remote Arctic coastline unfolds, watch for wildlife and take in views of rugged mountains, fjords, and tundra. Upon arrival, explore the preserved Moravian mission buildings, remnants of a former Hudson’s Bay trading post, and historic grave sites. Learn about the Inuit families who lived in Hebron and the impact of forced relocations through the site’s archaeological and cultural remains. Enjoy a picnic lunch before returning by boat to the comfortable tented accommodations at Torngat Base Camp. In the evening, attend a presentation led by Labrador Inuit guides, researchers, or expedition staff, followed by dinner and a bonfire beneath the northern sky.

Day 5: Departure from the Torngats

  • 1 Breakfast
The final morning at camp offers time for one last walk along the shoreline before departure. After breakfast, transfer to Saglek and board the charter flight back to Goose Bay, leaving the Torngat region with a deeper appreciation for its history, wildlife, and cultural strength.

Beyond expectations! Then again we weren't sure what to expect. Lovely stay at the lodge, met other like-minded travelers (many had their trips planned by Adventure Life) and the owner was a gracious hostess. It felt like you were one happy family, visiting with a favorite aunt.
