The Torngat Mountains adventure begins with a scenic charter flight over glacier-carved peaks to a small Arctic base camp. Over 7 nights, Labrador Inuit guides travelers into a landscape few reach: scanning remote coastlines for polar bears and minke whales, exploring archaeological sites on Rose Island and Ramah Bay, and walking the abandoned Moravian mission at Hebron. A hike into North Arm leads to a waterfall framed by ancient ridgelines, while a full day at Tor Bay or, in late season, Bear's Gut offers a choice between a scenic valley hike and a dedicated search for polar bears fishing along the coastline. Evenings around the bonfire, where local hosts share stories and traditions shaped by generations on this land. This remote base camp offers an immersive way to experience the Torngat Mountains.

Day 1: Fly from Goose Bay to Torngat Base Camp

Begin the adventure in Goose Bay with a scenic Twin Otter charter flight to Saglek, including a brief refueling stop in Nain and views of Labrador’s rugged landscapes. From Saglek, transfer by Zodiac to Torngat Base Camp, a remote Arctic camp in the heart of Torngat Mountains National Park. After lunch, attend the mandatory Parks Canada briefing and camp orientation before settling into the accommodations.

In the afternoon, join a guided hike to cascading waterfalls or glacier-carved ridgelines, then take part in a photography workshop focused on wildlife, landscapes, and seasonal Northern Lights. Enjoy dinner with local Labrador Inuit guides before learning about regional culture and traditions. End the day around a campfire beneath the Arctic sky.

Day 2: Jans Haven & Branigan Island | Wildlife Spotting

Start with breakfast at Torngat Base Camp before heading by boat to Jans Haven and Branigan Island in Torngat Mountains National Park. Cruise along the remote Arctic coastline as local guides search for polar bears along rocky shores and minke whales in the clear waters. Watch for marine birds while taking in dramatic cliffs, quiet coves, and rugged tundra. Depending on weather and wildlife conditions, the boat excursion lasts several hours or a full day, with lunch served on the water. Return to Torngat Base Camp for time to relax and attend presentations by Inuit guides or visiting researchers. Learn about Arctic wildlife, Inuit history, and local ecology before dinner and an evening around the campfire.

Day 3: Rose Island Archaeology & Wilderness

Start with breakfast at Torngat Base Camp before traveling by Zodiac or longliner to Rose Island in Torngat Mountains National Park. Cruise along the rugged Labrador coast and explore archaeological sites that reveal the history of Inuit and pre-Inuit communities who lived, hunted, and traveled through the region for thousands of years. Watch for polar bears along the shoreline and whales in the surrounding waters. Enjoy a shore lunch before returning to Torngat Base Camp for a hands-on workshop focused on making northern-inspired soap using locally influenced scents.

After dinner, gather around the campfire beneath the Arctic sky. Guests on the full expedition can also watch an introduction to a documentary about historic Hebron.

Day 4: Explore Historic Hebron

After breakfast, travel north to the abandoned community of Hebron, a profoundly important site in Labrador Inuit history. Depending on conditions and transportation, the trip may take half a day or a full day. Upon arrival, the Moravian mission buildings come into view alongside the remnants of a once-active Hudson's Bay trading post. Walking among the preserved structures and visiting the historic grave sites offers a powerful and emotional glimpse into the stories of the families who lived here and the legacy of forced relocations. Enjoy a picnic lunch in this setting before returning to camp for the evening.

Later, settle in for a talk delivered by Labrador Inuit guides, researchers, or expedition guides, before gathering for dinner and another evening by the fire beneath the northern sky.

Day 5: North Arm: Waterfall Hike and Arctic Char Fishing

Travel by Zodiac or longliner into North Arm, one of the most dramatic areas of Torngat Mountains National Park. Cruise past towering peaks and steep fjord walls before reaching the shoreline. Hike toward a scenic waterfall surrounded by ancient ridgelines, while archaeological sites along the trail reveal traces of Inuit ancestors and Labrador’s deep Indigenous history. Try ocean fishing for Arctic char, then enjoy a fresh shore lunch prepared on the land. If time allows, return to camp for a friendly game of volleyball or badminton.

End the day with dinner and a bonfire beneath the Arctic sky before settling into camp for the night.

Day 6: Tor Bay or Bear’s Gut: Arctic Hiking and Wildlife Viewing

The day begins with breakfast before choosing between two very different yet equally remarkable excursions.

For Tor Bay, set out on a scenic hike from camp, traveling through a broad valley and past a serene lake before meeting a Zodiac at the coast for a relaxing ride back. After returning to camp, enjoy a warm lunch and time to unwind.

For Bear’s Gut, available from late August through early September, the day becomes a full expedition. After a long and scenic boat ride, hike to a viewpoint overlooking clear Arctic waters, an ideal spot for watching polar bears fishing for running Arctic char. The trip may also bring encounters with whales and polar bears along the shoreline, and even black bears deeper in the park. A picnic lunch rounds out the experience before returning to camp for an evening presentation, dinner, and bonfire.

Day 7: Ramah Bay: Ancient Inuit Sites and Archaeological Exploration

Spend the final full day in Torngat Mountains National Park exploring the remarkable landscapes and archaeological heritage of Ramah Bay. After breakfast, travel by Zodiac or longliner along the Labrador coast to reach the bay, where dramatic ridgelines, winding rivers, and ancient stone structures reveal thousands of years of Inuit history. Walk among traditional dwelling sites, examine stone tools, and learn about the region’s cultural heritage with local guides. Enjoy a picnic or shore lunch during the day before returning to camp. If time permits, take part in traditional Inuit games led by local guides, then gather for the expedition’s final dinner and bonfire beneath the Arctic sky.
