Day 1: Puerto Caldera, Costa Rica / Embark

Arrive in Puerto Caldera. Board Le Boreal between 5 and 6 PM. Settle in to your cabin and familiarize yourself with the ship and her crew.

Day 2: At Sea

Get acquainted with Le Boreal's luxurious amenities, keep your eye out for marine mammals, or simply relax while you cruise the open ocean.

Day 3: Punta Alegre, Panama

Day 4: Crossing the Panama Canal

Enjoy the day from the deck as you pass through the historic Panama Canal locks and begin the Caribbean leg of your voyage.

Come and discover this example of engineering prowess. The canal crosses the Isthmus of Panama and connects the Atlantic and the Pacific Oceans. It includes three levels of locks and raises ships to the level of Lake Gatun, almost as if the water were an elevator, allowing them to avoid having to round Cape Horn.

Day 7: At Sea

Continue to explore your ship as you cruise the open seas. Watch for bird life and marine mammals on deck, take advantage of the ship's luxurious amenities, or curl up with a book.

Day 9: Los Roques, Venezuela

An idyllic archipelago of islets, Los Roques is a marine oasis with huge biodiversity.

Day 10: St. Georges, Grenada

The capital of Grenada, St. Georges is a picturesque little town wrapped around the port. Surrounded by untamed tropical forests,pristine beaches and numerous waterfalls, St George has also retained the red roofed, pastel-colored architecture of the colonial era. This combination makes for a truly enchanting destination.

Two optional half-day excursions are offered to further explore the treasures and history of this island gem.

Day 11: Bequia, St. Vincent des Grenadines

Day 12: Marigot & Soufriere, Ste. Lucia

The unspoiled nature of Ste. Lucia ensures this island’s status as one of the Caribbean’s real gems. Covered in tropical forests and valleys, the island features two distinctive volcanic Pitons, two giant cones rising up out of the sea near Soufriere remnants of past volcanic activity. As you travel through the forest, you can pause to visit a superb tropical garden and some sulphur springs.

Day 22: Ponta Delgada - Azores, Portugal

On the edge of Europe, in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, the Azores are a paradise for nature lovers. Come and visit this rainbow-colored island chain. The palaces, churches and fortresses found here are a reminder of the time when the Azores were an important stopping point for ships laden with treasures from the Americas and the Orient.

Day 23: Sao Roque do Pico/ Madalena/ Horta - Azores, Portugal

During your stopover, visit a number of villages between Sao Roque do Pico and Madalena, where the scenery consists mainly of vineyards; the villages are all UNESCO World Heritage sites.

Sao Roque do Pico is the Azores' mountain-island, with its vineyards planted on the black volcanic soil contrasting with the intense green of its pastures. Fro here choose to venture to your second stop via an optional excursion that will take you to excellent photo sites, through the village of Cachorro, and into Cricao Velha where you can stop to admire the unique vineyard landscapes. Visit Madalena village center and local church on your own before returning to the ship, which will have sailed to Madalena.

From the Horta harbour, join an short optional excursion venturing to the Viewpoint of Espalamaca for vistas of the port and charming Horta old town. Continue through the mountains to overlook the Valley of Flamengos, arriving at the 3,000 ft. volcanic crater at the center of the island. Take a short stop in the Vapelo Natural Park before driving north to Capelinhos, to see the volcano that rose from the sea. Return to your ship in Horta harbor.

Day 24: Angra Do Heroismo - Azores, Portugal

On the third stop in the Azores archipelago, depart from the harbor in Angra do Heroismo for a short panoramic tour in this main city of Terceira island. Walk by its main attractions and continue by bus to the Pico das Cruzinhas overlook for a spectacular view over Angra and its surroundings.

Continue down the south coast to Sao Sebastiao where you can visit the church built around 1455by the first settlers of the island. Lunch will be Terceira's meat specialty, Alcatra, in a typical restaurant. After lunch, continue to the second city in the island, Praia da Vitoria. Stop for a panoramic tour by the sea before traveling along a mountain road to "Serra do Cume." Stop to visit the "Algar do Carvao" cave, a Natural Monument. It is a remarkable volcanic cavity with geological and speleological importance. Continue to Biscoitos to visit the natural swimming pools of black volcanic rock. Return to Angra harbor to meet your ship.

Day 25: Vila Do Porto - Azores, Portugal

On an optional excursion, leave from the port of Vila do Porto heading towards Macela Viewpoint where you will be dazzled by one of the most popular spots on the island - the Praia Formosa. Continue by Santo Espirito and stop at the Museum of Santa Maria, which exhibits interesting woven and pottery works. After this visit continue straight to Pico Alto, the highest point of the island to admire the breathtaking scenery. Continue to the Sao Lourenco outlook, located at the bottom of a wonderful hillside, and on to the parishes of Santa Barbara, Fatima, Feteiras, Lagoinhas, Ribeira do Engenho and Sao Pedro. Stop outside the Chapel of Our Lady of Fatima on your way to Vila do Porto for lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch, enjoy a short walk to the center of Vila do Porto and the Centro de Interpretacao Dalberto Pombo, where visitor can glimpse marine fossil deposits. Before returning to the ship, stop in Forte de Sao Bras and Anjos, where Christopher Columbus had a Mass in his return journey after the discovery of America.

Day 26: At Sea

Relax on board your ship and take in beautiful ocean views.

Day 27: Funchal - Madeira, Portugal

Funchal is the largest city and the capital of Portugal's autonomous region of Madeira. The name Funchal was applied by the first settlers that landed on its shores due to the abundance of wild fennel.

Choose from several optional full- or half-day excursions to discover more of Madiera region.

Day 28: Porto Santo - Madiera, Portugal

Porto Santo Island is a Portuguese island situated 27 miles northeast of Madeira Island in the North Atlantic Ocean. Porto Santo was officially discovered and recognized by the crown of Portugal in 1418. During the first centuries of settlement, life on Porto Santo was harsh, owing to the scarcity of potable water and constant attacks by Barbary Coast pirates and French privateers. The famous explorer Christopher Columbus married Bartolomeu Perestrelo's daughter, Filipa Moniz Perestrelo, a Portuguese noblewoman, and for a while lived on Porto Santo.

To see more of this historic island, join an optional three hour hiking excursion that starts from the pier, passes through the eastern part of the island, and heads towards the Pico de Castelo overlook. From here begin your two-hour walk along a little path to the summit of this peak. From the top, spectacular views of the whole island can be seen. Here you will find a reconstruction of a small fortress that existed in the seventeenth century to protect the population from attacks by pirates. Along this route, look for endemic vegetation, predominantly pines introduced here from the beginning of the twentieth century.

Day 29: At Sea

Enjoy your last day on board Le Boreal by taking advantage of her luxurious amenities, catching some sun on the ship deck, or reminiscing about your adventures.

Day 30: Lisbon, Portugal

Following an early breakfast on board, disembark in Lisbon. Transport to airport to continue your travels.
