Day 1: Arrive in Santo Domingo

A warm welcome awaits you at the Santo Domingo airport upon arrival. Outside the terminal, a driver with your name on a sign will meet you and drive you to your hotel in the historic town of Santo Domingo.

Transfers to and from Puerto Plata and Punta Cana to Santo Domingo are available upon request.

Day 2: Santo Domingo

The exploration begins with a tour of the first city built by Europeans in the Americas. You will receive the exact start time for this tour the day before. The historic district, known as the Zona Colonial, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site where the first cathedral, bishop, and hospital of the New World were established.

After breakfast at the hotel, you visit the Palace of Diego Columbus and the Casas Reales historical museum. The route includes the Cathedral and Parque Colón, which features a bronze monument of Christopher Columbus. You stroll along Calle de las Damas, which was the first paved street in Santo Domingo, and walk through the El Conde pedestrian zone to see the local shops and street vendors.

The afternoon is yours to spend at your leisure, allowing you to discover more of the city or relax. In the evening, you meet a representative for a curated culinary experience. You visit a traditional restaurant in the Colonial Zone to enjoy representative Dominican dishes in a setting full of local character and history.

Day 3: Santiago de los Caballeros | Punta Rucia

You leave Santo Domingo after breakfast and drive north toward Santiago. Upon arrival, you visit Los Pepines, a historic neighborhood that has become a major attraction due to its vibrant street art. This area was revitalized starting in 2016 through a local government project to beautify the streets with colorful murals.

During a walking tour of the district, your guide explains the stories behind the paintings and the local figures they depict. You also experience the local flavors with several street food stops to taste fresh fruit juices and typical empanadas, which are dumplings filled with meat or vegetables.

Following the tour, you continue the drive to Punta Rucia. This quiet fishing village is located on a scenic bay at the tip of a small cape. You arrive in the late afternoon to see the turquoise water of the bay as you settle into your lodge.

Day 4: Cayo Arena Island

After breakfast, take a half-day excursion to the sandbank Cayo Arena, also called Paradise Island. You depart directly from the beach by boat at 08:00 for the 25-minute crossing. This islet is a natural feature that rises from the sea during the day and disappears beneath the water at high tide.

Upon arrival, you can swim in the crystal-clear water or snorkel among schools of tropical fish at the nearby coral reef. After spending several hours on the island, you return to the hotel around midday. On the way back, the boat cruises along the coastline through narrow channels lined with dense mangrove forests. The afternoon is yours to enjoy at your leisure in the quiet surroundings of Punta Rucia.

Day 5: Puerto Plata | Santiago de Los Caballeros

After breakfast, you head toward Puerto Plata, a city characterized by its colorful Victorian wooden houses and central park. You take a guided tour through the historic center to explore the local heritage, including a visit to the Amber Museum. The tour also visits Fortaleza San Felipe, a colonial stone fortress built in 1577 to defend the harbor from maritime attacks.

The excursion continues with a drive to the summit of Mount Isabel de Torres, which rises 800 meters above sea level. At the top, you can walk through the botanical gardens and view the iconic statue of Christ the Redeemer while taking in panoramic views of the coastline and the city below.

In the afternoon, you continue the drive to Santiago. Your accommodation is located at Camp David Ranch, which sits on a ridge overlooking the city and the vast Cibao Valley.

Day 6: San Francisco de Macoris | Tamboril

You begin the day by heading toward San Francisco de Macorís to visit the Sendero del Cacao at Hacienda La Esmeralda. This plantation provides cacao to several prominent chocolate producers worldwide. During your time here, you observe the full production cycle, beginning with the growth of the beans and ending with the creation of the chocolate. The visit features a tasting of various cocoa products and is followed by a lunch served at the plantation.

In the afternoon, the drive continues to Tamboril, which is recognized as the center of the Dominican tobacco industry. You visit a traditional cigar factory to see how the leaves are processed and learn about the techniques used to roll premium cigars. Once the tour is complete, the driver brings you back to your hotel in Santiago.

Day 7: Jarabacoa | Santo Domingo

Today, the route leads you south along the slopes of the Central Cordillera into the Dominican Alps. You arrive in Jarabacoa, a mountain town situated 600 meters above sea level and surrounded by pine forests and the valleys of the Rio Yaque del Norte and Rio Jimenoa. Because of its mild, spring-like climate, this area is a favorite destination for nature lovers and those seeking a retreat from the coastal heat.

During your visit to the town, you stop at the Monte Alto coffee factory. Here, you receive an explanation of the local coffee cultivation and the processing stages of the beans. Following the factory tour, you enjoy a typical lunch at Café Colao, a local restaurant in the heart of Jarabacoa.

The drive continues toward La Vega. If your visit falls between Wednesday and Sunday, a stop is planned at the Vega Carnival Museum to view exhibits dedicated to one of the country's most vibrant cultural traditions. Finally, you complete the journey back to Santo Domingo for your final overnight stay in the city.

Day 8: San Pedro de Macoris | Punta Cana | Santo Domingo Airport

  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch
Today, you travel east from Santo Domingo toward San Pedro de Macorís. Your first stop is the Ron Barceló Visitor Center for the Imperial Experience. During this visit, you learn about the production and aging processes of one of the most recognized rums in the Dominican Republic. An expert guide leads you through the aging cellars for a tasting of Barceló Imperial to observe the specific aromas and flavors of the spirit.

Afterward, you continue to Punta Cana to participate in a hands-on cooking class. Under the guidance of a local host, you learn how to prepare the traditional Dominican meal known as La Bandera Dominicana. This session includes refreshing drinks and concludes with a lunch featuring the dishes you helped create. This experience marks the final activity of your round trip.

Our guide and driver were very good with their knowledge and were very helpful with our questions. It was a very pleasant visit that would have been impossible to do on our own. Hotels and restaurants were fantastic. The special places we got to go to, like the kitchens, were great. Enjoyed the entire trip!
