Flamenco Hotel Cairo opened in 1988 on Zamalek Island, in the diplomatic district of central Cairo. The hotel overlooks the river, and its conference and banquet rooms have Nile views. Its restaurants, bars, and meeting rooms take Spanish names, such as Florencia, Carmen, Valencia, and Andalusia, in keeping with the hotel name. All rooms have been refurbished in recent years. The hotel operates on a bed and breakfast basis and is open year-round. The Cairo Opera House is 3.9 km (2.4 mi) away, the Egyptian Museum is 4.4 km (2.7 mi) away, and the Khan el Khalili bazaar is 4.6 km (2.9 mi) away. The Giza pyramids are 19 km (11.8 mi) from the hotel.
