Day 1: Frankfurt | Bernkastel | Embark

When you arrive in Frankfurt, you will be transferred to Bernkastel to board on Emerald Waterways Star-Ship, where the captain and its crew will warmly welcome you. This evening, join your fellow guests for dinner on board.

Day 2: Bernkastel

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Today, you will get the opportunity to explore a piece of Europe’s vast history as you travel to Bernkastel, a town that can be dated back to 3000 BC. Situated along the banks of the Moselle River, Bernkastel contains several well-preserved medieval buildings, some of which you will have the opportunity to explore today during your guided tour.

Witness the timber-framed houses, castle ruins, and ancient fortifications that pepper the medieval marketplace and learn about the history of this winemaking town from your local guide. If you are feeling more active, then you may instead choose to cycle around Bernkastel.

Day 3: Cochem

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Early this morning, sail into the enchanting town of Cochem. Enjoy a guided tour of Cochem’s old town, including several well-preserved medieval sites and ancient fortifications, before visiting Reichsburg Castle, a prime example of Gothic Revival architecture.

Day 4: Koblenz

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Koblenz can be found among the picturesque surrounds of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Rhine Valley; a place that has a strong influence on the German Romantics of the 18th century, thanks to its many ruins, castles and ancient monasteries. You will get the opportunity to learn about Koblenz, one of the oldest castles in Germany, as you embark on a guided walking tour. Included is a cable car ride across the confluence of the Moselle and Rhine rivers to Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, where postcard-worthy panoramic views of the surrounding area await.

This afternoon, relax on board as the ship cruises through the Rhine Gorge. An EmeraldPLUS experience will certainly delight you with its regional wine lecture in the Horizon Lounge.

Day 5: Miltenberg | Wertheim

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Set on the banks of the Main River, Miltenberg perfectly encapsulates life in medieval Bavaria. A series of well-preserved half-timbered buildings and several prominent landmarks pepper the area, including the Gothic Merchant Hall, an impressive symbol of past affluence that was created by trade along the waterways of Europe. After your tour, you will have some free time to explore Miltenberg at leisure.

Later, be transferred by coach to the medieval glass-blowing town of Wertheim, where you will have some free time to explore and perhaps learn more about its ancient craft.

Day 6: Würzburg

  • Ship
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Würzburg offers a unique level of exploration with something to delight art lovers, wine connoisseurs, and history buffs. Viticulture flourishes in the surrounding area and air raids during WWII destroyed most of the old town. A decision was made to restore it to its former glory, leaving behind an intricate mixture of medieval buildings and modern designs for you to discover today.

Your included EmeraldPLUS experience is certain to be a highlight of your trip, with a wine tasting in the Staatlicher Hofkeller below the Würzburg Residence and a visit to UNESCO World Heritage-listed Baroque palace that is considered to be one of the finest examples of Baroque architecture in Europe.

This was our first trip to South America and we were a little nervous. But Adventure Life made things so easy! All our questions were answered before we left, and our guide, Vidal, was amazing! He gave us enough space to explore without rushing us along. He also knew where the best picture taking opportunities were, which was great.
