Lautoka, the second largest city in Fiji, sits on the western side of Viti Levu, about 24 kilometers north of Nadi. Known as the Sugar City, it lies at the center of Fiji's sugar cane growing region. Lautoka serves as the gateway to Fiji’s “Sun Coast,” a region famous for its sunny weather, clear blue skies, and scenic landscapes of grassy peaks, sugar cane fields, traditional villages, and charming market towns.
Viti Levu, the largest island in Fiji, offers a rich blend of natural beauty and cultural heritage. Mount Tomanivi towers over the island, with dense tropical vegetation blanketing the south and expansive sugar cane plantations stretching across the north. Suva, the lively and modern capital, preserves the island’s history. The Fiji Museum, located in Thurston Gardens, houses remarkable archaeological collections that trace over 3,000 years of human activity. From the vibrant forest canopy to the turquoise waters of Beqa Lagoon, Viti Levu’s natural wonders leave a lasting impression.
Just a few kilometres from Viti Levu, the small and remote island of Beqa (pronounced “Benga”) offers a concentrated dose of Fiji’s cultural and natural treasures. Its inhabitants continue the impressive ancestral tradition of fire walking, or Vilavilairevo. During demonstrations, they invite you to watch these ceremonies where barefooted men, prepared and dressed for the occasion in traditional costume, walk over red-hot coals. Legend says that they also have the power to heal burns. The coral reef so close to the beach is the promise of unforgettable underwater excursions. Further out to sea, the sumptuous seabeds are reputed to be home to many species of sharks.

This was our first trip to South America and we were a little nervous. But Adventure Life made things so easy! All our questions were answered before we left, and our guide, Vidal, was amazing! He gave us enough space to explore without rushing us along. He also knew where the best picture taking opportunities were, which was great.
