After an excitement-packed 9-night cruise, you take it a bit slower today, allowing you to digest all the memories collected. You have quite some river mileage to sail throughout the day until you reach Huay Xai - your final destination.
You can sleep a bit longer in the morning (if you like). The day unfolds with gentle cruising along the magnificent Mekong River, an ideal time to unwind and reflect on the journey so far.
In the mid-morning, you would like to invite you to an enthralling presentation that unravels the intricate history of the Golden Triangle, composed of its complexities of colonialism, opium, conflicts, and the multifaceted roles played by Burma, Thailand, Laos, Britain, China, and more. You are approximately at the confluence of the Mekong with the Nam Tha River, one of the Mekong’s major tributaries, known as the “Green River.” Originating near the Chinese border, 325 km to the northeast, it joins the Mekong at this juncture.
You are passing the confluence of the Mekong and Nam Tha River, a major tributary known as the "Green River". Your captain expertly navigates through rocks, rapids, and sandbanks, offering a fascinating observation from the terrace deck.
Here, the river widens, yet your skilled captain remains vigilant, navigating safely amidst rocks, stones, rapids, and sandbanks, making the sailing experience a fascinating observation from the open deck. This is also the moment right before the appetite kicks in. Kick back and enjoy the final peaceful hours of your voyage. Lunch will be served until one hour prior to arrival (approx.). .
Upon arrival at Huay Xai pier in the afternoon, you provide assistance with your luggage and a seamless transfer to the Lao - Thai border (see details in your embarkation guide). You bid your farewell right in front of the Lao immigration office and wish you a pleasant onward journey.
IMPORTANT: Kindly note that subject to low water level, the ship might not be able to sail all the way to Huay Xai and disembarkation will be at PAK THA instead. If so, Heritage Line will instead organize a land transfer to Huay Xai (about 2,5hrs). All itineraries remain unaffected.
(If you wish to extend your stay in the Golden Triangle on the Thai side, please contact your Trip Planner for assistance in arranging your transfers to Chiang Rai city, the airport, or a resort/hotel in Chiang Sean.)
