Highlights
Discover Orangutans at the Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Center
Learn Sun Bears at Borneo Sun Bear Conservation Center
Involves minimal physical effort and is typically associated with leisurely activities. Activities are low-intensity or last less than a few hours each day.
The journey begins at Sandakan airport or your accommodation. Your next destination is the Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Center, where you can learn about the center's rehabilitation efforts through a video. You will then visit the feeding platform to observe the orangutans being fed at 10 AM daily. In the secure nursery area, you can watch the playful young infants. You then visit the Sun Bear Conservation Center to learn about the world's smallest bears. After lunch, you board a speedboat for a 2.5-hour journey up the Kinabatangan River to the Sukau Rainforest Lodge. After check-in, you go on an evening cruise to search for Borneo's wildlife and birds. The night is spent at the Sukau Rainforest Lodge.
Note: Remember to arrive in Sandakan no later than 0800 hours. Or, if that's not an option, it's advised to fly in and spend the night in Sandakan or Sepilok before the tour starts.
Rise early for a morning Kinabatangan River cruise upstream to Kelenanap Oxbow Lake to spot more birds and wildlife. After breakfast, join the lodge's naturalist on a nature walk along the Hornbill Boardwalk. The afternoon is free. Embark on another river trip to see additional animals. Spend the night at the Sukau Rainforest Lodge.
Embark on an early-morning river cruise along the Menanggol River using a silent electric motor to search for animals, waking up to the sounds of the rainforest before returning for breakfast. Relax or participate in extra activities. After lunch, travel 27 kilometers overland to the Gomantong Cave, surrounded by a primary rainforest rich in fruiting wild figs, providing the perfect location to see orangutans in the wild. Spend time exploring the cave and its surroundings until dusk, when over two million bats migrate out for the night and swiftlets come to nest, with raptors (eagles) swooping in to catch prey. Return to the Sukau Rainforest Lodge for an overnight stay.
Day 4: Sukau Rainforest Lodge | Lahad Datu | Borneo Rainforest Lodge
Get ready for an early start to your journey to Danum Valley. After having breakfast, you'll travel for 2 hours by land to Lahad Datu and then head to the internationally recognized Borneo Rainforest Retreat nature lodge. After arrival and check-in, enjoy lunch and the option to attend an evening photo display, explore the nature path, and walk the canopy walkway. Weather permitting, you'll go spotlighting to see some night species before retiring for the night at the Borneo Rainforest Lodge.
Spend the whole day looking for animals and birds in the forest before climbing to an escarpment with antique gravestones. Explore a waterfall, then cool off in the rock pools. Re-enter the lodge after lunch. In the afternoon, explore additional routes. Make your home for the night at Borneo Rainforest Lodge.

This was my first experience with Adventure Life - and I couldn't have been more pleased with the trip. The guides and local staff in both Buenos Aires and Uruguay were terrific - extremely helpful and accommodating. I really enjoyed meeting the friendly staff in Buenos Aires in person (I left my bags with them for the afternoon).

The response from Adventure Life to my first inquiry was prompt and promising. I worked with Jamie Broeckel, Trip Planner, via text, email, and phone calls- always extremely responsive and thorough with information and explaining the process to arrange a private tour for me to Malaysia Borneo. Within about week, the booking was complete and I made decisions because of Jamie's great customer service , friendly manner, and overall competence on behalf of the company's travel expertise. Now I have an itinerary, additional Trip Planner Assistants, several links for vital information for traveling to Maylasia, etc. Still many details for Sept. trip, but now the heavy lifting is done and I can enjoy the rest of the anticipation and research!! Thanks Jamie- you are amazing!!!!

The trip was not only memorable for the amount of animals we saw but also for the people and accommodations at the two camps where we stayed. Our first guide, BK, was a wealth of information about the animals, landscape and down to the plants and what they were used for. Everyday out was a learning experience with him. All the people at the camps were gracious and the food was excellent.
Our second camp in the Okavanga was just as good as the first as far as the staff, accommodations, food and animals. After our experience at the first camp we amazed that the high quality remained the same. Our guide, G, made sure we were able to enjoy every experience including a rush through the bush to witness a cheetah and an ensuing hunt that he heard over his radio.
In both camps there were enough guides out that if they saw something the other guides were informed which helped in seeing as much as possible. It was also nice that the concessions were large enough that we did not have vehicles following each other throughout the day.
Normally there is always something in a trip of this length that we think could be improved upon but this is the rare case where we cannot think of anything. From the time we left the States to when we returned it was one of the most hassle free vacations we took.
Perhaps emphasizing the use of the laundry facilities at the camps would be useful because of the luggage restrictions would be the only thing I can think of as an improvement to future clients.
