The Etendeka Overnight Hiking Trail in Namibia offers an immersive wilderness experience with two camps, each designed for minimal environmental impact while ensuring guest comfort.
Camp One (River Camp) is located near a waterhole along a wildlife trail, featuring raised sleeping platforms with attached toilet facilities and communal bucket showers, ideal for safe wildlife viewing of species like Hartmann's Mountain Zebra and Oryx.

Scenic & Game Viewing Transfer to Etendeka
The 90-minute drive through the Etendeka Mountain Camp concession to the lodge is a key highlight, offering a guided introduction to the rocky plains at the Grootberg foothills. Private vehicles are not allowed—leave yours at Palmwag Lodge and take a 4x4 to one of Kaokoveld's remote nature camps.
Afternoon Scenic Game Drive
The afternoon drive allows guests to explore different parts of the Etendeka concession and observe wildlife adapted to the harsh environment. All activities are guided, with vehicles restricted to designated tracks and walking routes following established paths.
Stargazing under the Namibian Sky
With zero light pollution, Etendeka Lodge is ideal for stargazing. After dinner, the host guides guests in spotting constellations along the Milky Way. Visitors from the Northern Hemisphere can see the Southern Cross and Sirius. Using a telescope, guests may view Jupiter’s moons and Saturn’s rings.
Guided Morning Nature Walk
After breakfast, guests head into the wilderness with walking sticks, hats, and sunblock. A guide identifies animal tracks and rare plants in a Mopani-shaded riverbed. Ancient crystals and agates are visible, but true to Etendeka’s philosophy, everything remains untouched.
Self-guided Sundowner Walk
Guests can take a short self-guided walk in the afternoon to a hill behind the camp, offering views of the camp’s location and surrounding landscape.
Overnight Walking Trail
Multi-day guided hikes offer a chance to explore the Etendeka area. Guests stay on open-air platforms, with all equipment and catering provided.
Inquire
Our guide and driver were very good with their knowledge and were very helpful with our questions. It was a very pleasant visit that would have been impossible to do on our own. Hotels and restaurants were fantastic. The special places we got to go to, like the kitchens, were great. Enjoyed the entire trip!
