Story

The story of Uniworld begins in 1976, when the company becomes one of the first American river cruise lines to introduce travelers to Europe's hidden gems. As the first American company to set sail in Europe, Uniworld helps shape the future of luxury river cruising through decades of innovation, destination expertise, and exceptional service. During the 1980s, Uniworld becomes the first U.S. brand to take American travelers on European river cruises. In 1992, the completion of the Main-Danube Canal allows Uniworld to become the first company to offer a river cruise connecting Amsterdam to the Black Sea. Throughout the 1990s, the company expands river cruising to the Douro River Valley, the Venetian Lagoon, India, and other extraordinary destinations beyond Europe. In 2004, Uniworld joins The Travel Corporation (TTC), combining hospitality expertise with luxury river cruising to create the signature Floating Boutique Hotels™ experience. Innovation continues with the introduction of the river cruise industry's first personal butlers in 2009, the launch of the first Super Ship™, S.S. Antoinette, in 2011, and the industry's first onboard Wellness Experts in 2014. New experiences follow with Cruise & Rail itineraries in 2021, the world's first Mystery Cruises in 2022, and the first Rivers of the World cruise in 2023. In 2026, Uniworld celebrates 50 years of luxury river cruising while launching S.S. Emilie, followed by S.S. Marlene and S.S. Audrey in 2027, continuing a legacy of innovation. Today, you travel aboard one-of-a-kind Floating Boutique Hotels™ that combine personalized service, locally inspired cuisine, elegant craftsmanship, all-inclusive luxury, and carefully curated experiences across the rivers of Europe, Egypt, India, Southeast Asia, and the Peruvian Amazon.
