Sustainability

Ka'ana brings eco-luxury to life, located on 17 acres of pristine and peaceful Mayan Jungle in Western Belize. From the restaurant to the room amenities, to recycling, using biodegradable products, and producing high-quality drinking water without using plastic bottles, Ka'ana's efforts benefit our guests, employees, and the local community.

Holy Cross Primary School
Holy Cross Primary School is a mere 10 minutes down the road from Ka'ana. Supporting this school has become a main initiative for the entire staff as well as friends of the resort. Of the school's 76 students, ages 4 to 13, a mere handful can afford to pay the yearly tuition. But the school doesn't turn students away. Unfortunately, its lack of resources has resulted in poor bathroom facilities, leaky roofs, an underfunded sports program, and inadequate cafeteria facilities.

Our goal is to contribute to tuition fees and raise at least US$500 to plant an organic garden on-site. Additionally, Ka'ana has committed to supporting the following programs at Holy Cross Primary School:

Scholarship Fund
Bathroom Rehabilitation Project
Sports Program
Environmental Program
We also welcome and facilitate donations (such as playground equipment and computers) and volunteer work (such as helping to refurbish classrooms) at the school.

Cayo Animal Welfare Society
Ka'ana is a proud supporter of the local animal shelter, Cayo Animal Welfare Society (CAWS).  We've fostered numerous pets from CAWS till they have found a home and have also assited CAWS in visiting some local schools to help educate young children about the importance of caring for animals.

And to help support this cause, we are giving all CAWS members

50% discount off accomodations at Ka'ana
20% off our dinner menu
50% off local drinks and house wine weekly from 5-7PM
We continue to support the care and treatment of the animals in our community.  To learn more about donation, adopting or how you can help, visit their website here.

*CAWS members must show member ID for discounted services.  Accomodations are based on availability and black out dates are applied.

Pack For A Purpose
In 2011, our staff decided that as part of our giving-back initiatives, they would do something for the children of a nearby school, Holy Cross School in Calla Creek. After visiting the school and seeing the poor conditions of the restroom facilities for the pre-schoolers, Ka'ana decided a reconstruction project would be the first of many improvements we'd be making in the school.

The school has since become very dear to us, and when guests heard about what the staff was doing they wanted to help out, too. Many guests sent down much-needed supplies for the school that many parents simply cannot afford to purchase. And so our pet project had taken off!

Over the years we've joined Pack for a Purpose and, with the help of our guests and friends of the school, we've launched new initiatives such as another bathroom for the older kids, an organic garden to promote sustainability and nutrition, and a sports program.

You can too particpate by seeing what extra space you have in your luggage can make a difference in the life of a child.  To learn more about what you can bring visit the Pack for a Purpose site.

Belize Wildlife Clinic
The Belize Wildlife Clinic is an organization that we are very passionate about.  Our resort is located in the midst of the jungle surrounded by all the beautiful wildlife Belize has to offer, and it's of utmost importance to us that the wildlife be properly cared for.   Early on in 2018, we rescued an injured howler monkey that had been hit by a car right in front of the resort.  We rushed her to the Belize Wildlife Clinic where she is being cared for in the primate rehabilitation program there and is doing very well.  Along with donations we send, we also ask for regular updates on our little Howler Monkey, we lovingly now call Valiente, meaning "Brave" in Spanish.
