Gran Canaria is a beautiful island with a diverse range of landscapes, including a towering black volcano and endless white beaches. It's known as a "continent in miniature" with rugged rock formations, dense pine forests, dry valleys, lush vegetation, shimmering dunes, and weirdly shaped cliffs. Almost half of the island is a Biosphere Reserve. Las Palmas, the capital, has a rich history and a magnificent Santa Ana Cathedral.
La Gomera is often regarded as the most romantically wild island in the Canaries. Its landscape is characterized by rugged gorges, craggy hillsides, fertile valleys, and evergreen cloud forests. The central mountain region is home to the Garajonay National Park, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a unique little spot. The park's cloud forest is a mystical natural wonder that has existed for millions of years. It is home to ancient bay trees, tall ferns, and heather bushes as high as trees. The trees in the forest are covered in moss and have gnarled branches, which add to the park's mystical aura.
Volcanic activity has created a wildly romantic and varied natural landscape. It's a land of black lava desert and strange rock formations with oddly shaped, wind-defying juniper trees in the south, orchards, vineyards, fig, and almond groves in the north, lush green meadows and pastures in the high plateaus, and perhaps the most beautiful pine forests in the archipelago. El Hierro, the smallest and newest of the Canary Islands, is almost completely edged with steeply sloping, rugged cliffs and the spray from the surging ocean. UNESCO has designated it a Biosphere Reserve.
The combination of small size and great height make the lush green volcanic island of La Palma one of the steepest islands on Earth. The white houses in the island's capital shine from wooded mountain slopes. The old town center of Santa Cruz is covered by a preservation order, principally because of its Canarian houses and their artistically decorated wooden balconies. The Caldera de Taburiente towers above the north of the island. With a diameter of 5.6 miles and surrounded by crater walls more than 6,561 feet high, it is one of the world's largest volcanic craters. Behind the caldera is the cloud forest of Los Tilos. UNESCO extended the Biosphere Reserve to cover the whole island of La Palma.
The island of eternal spring, with its mild climate all year round and the entire network of man-made irrigation channels, is a garden of flowers with green mountains, charming valleys, rugged coastlines, and breathtaking views over the sea. Hydrangeas bloom in abundance on the streets, creating hedges of flowers, and in the capital, Funchal, every balcony has a colorful floral display. Houses, palaces, churches, and monasteries nestle in steep, winding lanes on the towering mountain slopes. The picturesque Monte, where high society used to reside, is set high up in the hills and sends its famous wicker toboggans down the steep Caminho hill to Funchal.
Today is all about sailing: climbing the rigging, untying ropes, setting sails. It's time to lean back and relax in the deck chair and watch the passionate crew hoisting the sails by hand.
The "Island of Fire," a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, has been continually recreated by volcanic eruptions. A third of Lanzarote is a bizarre lunar landscape of barren, beige-grey lines of hills and "fire mountains." The snow-white houses, golden beaches, and sparse green vegetation are in sharp contrast. Its quaint wine-growing areas of La Geria have been declared an all-embracing art form by the Museum of Modern Art. The painter, sculptor, and architect César Manrique understood art as the link between man and nature and made a vital contribution to the look of his island home through his artistic creations.

With its black volcano almost 6,561 feet high and endless white beaches along the coastline, the island of Gran Canaria displays many landscapes. It's a "continent in miniature" with rugged rock formations, dense pine forests, dry valleys and reservoirs inland, lush vegetation in the north, shimmering dune landscapes in the south, and weirdly shaped cliffs in the west. Almost half the island has been registered by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve. The capital, Las Palmas, is no less colorful, with its port and history stretching back 500 years. The showpiece of this historic old town is the magnificent Santa Ana Cathedral.

Beyond expectations! Then again we weren't sure what to expect. Lovely stay at the lodge, met other like-minded travelers (many had their trips planned by Adventure Life) and the owner was a gracious hostess. It felt like you were one happy family, visiting with a favorite aunt.

It was an outstanding, up-close, educational vacation of nature, culture, history, animals and geology! It was everything they promised! Binoculars were plentiful on the boat, but I'm glad I brought my own. Food was excellent. Rooms had black-out shades. Pack/wear multiple layers of clothing (I carried a small backpack when off the ship). Crew were delightful and very accommodating! Remember to jump FEET FIRST first when taking the optional polar plunge! Spend as much time outdoors as you are able and ENJOY!!!

Excellent travel advice and service
This is my second experience working with Adventure Life. I’m sold. Jess Heuermann is an experienced traveler and provides a lot of useful information when planning a trip. These are the questions I like to ask at the outset - What’s it like to go here, there, what would you suggest, what do people report, can we add any additional side trips? Jess took the time to answer my questions and seek additional information to share with me. Petchie Colina is outstanding in helping with travel logistics and final preparations. Adventure Life has excellent guides and offers private guides and small group adventures. We enjoyed the opportunity to talk with the guides and drivers to learn more about their countries, cultures and histories. A highlight was having the guides pick local restaurants where we could share meals together. Highly recommend.

Our six-day tour in Iceland went smoothly with one exception. We had asked for two rooms each night. Somehow we were booked with one room with three beds. It could not be fixed at the first hotel in Reykjavik because the hotel was fully booked. Once informed of the problem, however, Adventure Life rebooked for two rooms for the remainder of the trip. As an 85-year-old traveler, I appreciated that one could participate at different physical levels at many of the stops. Iceland is a great place to visit but on the expensive side.
