Day 1: Arrive Tanzania

Arrive in Tanzania today at Kilimanjaro International Airport. After clearing customs and baggage claim, meet your transfer and drive into Arusha for your first night in Tanzania. 

Settle in and relax after the flight while preparing for the climb ahead. Meet the expert guide and Climbs Manager for a full briefing on the Machame Route trek, safety procedures, and itinerary details. Complete a full gear check to ensure all climbing equipment is ready. Stay overnight at an Arusha hotel before the Kilimanjaro trek the next day.

Day 2: Transfer to Kilimanjaro National Park | Machame Camp

After breakfast, transfer by vehicle to Machame Gate in Kilimanjaro National Park. Begin the Machame Route trek through lush afromontane forest. Follow forest trails uphill with your guide, stopping for a picnic lunch on the trail. Reach Machame Camp in the afternoon for a camp stay.

Day 3: Shira Camp

Trek from Machame Camp to Shira Camp, moving from forest into the heath zone. Pass unique plants like lobelia and heliochrysum while viewing lava formations and glacial valleys. The hike is moderately steep with a lunch break at Shira Camp. Overnight camping at Shira provides preparation for higher altitude stages of the Kilimanjaro climb.

Day 4: Barranco Camp

Ascend from Shira Camp into the alpine desert to Lava Tower (4,600m) for acclimatization. Stop for lunch and descend to Barranco Camp. This “walk high, sleep low” day helps the body adjust to higher altitudes. Barranco Camp offers comfortable camping and close guidance from trained crew. Experience views of glacial valleys and rocky terrain during the hike.

Day 5: Karanga Camp

Climb the Barranco Wall from Barranco Camp and trek through alpine desert and glacial valleys to Karanga Camp. Take lunch at camp and relax while acclimatizing for the summit push. Complete a short practice walk in the afternoon to test gear and prepare for the final ascent. Overnight at Karanga Camp under expert guide supervision ensures safe rest.

Day 6: Barafu Camp

Ascend from Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp in the alpine desert zone. Enjoy lunch and rest at camp before the final summit attempt. Barafu Camp provides full camping support, expert crew assistance, and safety guidance. Spend the afternoon preparing equipment and acclimatizing for the night climb to Stella Point and Uhuru Peak. Overnight at Barafu Camp before the summit push.

Day 7: Summit | Mweka Camp

Descend to Barafu Camp for rest and refreshments before continuing downhill to Mweka Camp. Overnight at Mweka Camp offers comfort and recovery after the long summit day. Expert guides and crew ensure safety throughout the climb.

Day 8: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate | End of Trek

After breakfast, continue descending to Mweka Gate to collect your certificates. Transfer by vehicle to an Arusha lodge for a long-awaited, well-deserved hot shower and a soft bed at your hotel.
