This is it. My first trip abroad.
I had just finished my first fire season and did quite well financially. I didn't know where to go or what to do, so my sister (who had been to Thailand the year before) told me I should spend my newly made cash on travel. I had no idea what any of it entailed, but it sounded good to me. Since I was young, traveling to unknown places, taking risks and experiencing new things drove me and still do today.
So that's exactly what happened. And as the planning came along, my sister and mother decided to also make the trip! For about a week we traveled together hitting the many incredible highlights of Thailand and soaking up everything we could. I had no idea how much this trip was going to change my life..but each day I woke up feeling alive, new, and ready for what was to come. I remember cherishing having no idea what was going on in the world around me..or how to navigate it..true adventure! No control, no expectations...true adventure.
After a week together we went our separate ways and I spent some time traveling a bit on my own. I fell in love with a group of friends in Kanchanaburi, who just happened to be motorcyclists. I spent another week traveling around Thailand on the back of a motorcycle, swimming in hidden waterfalls, eating at local establishments, soaking in the sun, and breathing in life in my 20s.
It was a trip done well. My eyes have never been opened the same, and this was the beginning of years to come of traveling to Asia. A place I would like to call home but if anything, a place that will forever hold my heart.
