A New Costa Rica Adventure

Our red-eye flight found us landing in Liberia early in the morning. Never one to waste a day of vacation I took the opportunity to head over to Hacienda Guachipelin to spend the day adventuring before we continued on to our hotel in the afternoon.
Nestled at the base of the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano, Hacienda Guachipelín is one of those places where adventure and nature collide in the best possible way. We started with a tour of the property which included the rooms with gorgeous views of the volcano, miles of trails plus stables and the adventure center which is where we took off from for our activities
We started the morning with tubing down the Río Negro, a wild ride through narrow canyons surrounded by lush forest. We bounced and spun our way through rapids with the assistance of the guides in more difficult spots. With 30 or so people on the tour things could occasionally get cramped in the narrow sections but everyone had a great time helping one another and laughing it off when tubes colided. I'm sure the scenery was bautiful with the jungle all around but I have to admit I was pretty focused on the water!
After drying off, it was time for the zipline course, which took us soaring over waterfalls and through the canopy. I'm had the pleasure of several zipline experiences in Costa Rica and this one is up there with my favorites. The varied scenery from jungle to canyon was beautiful and likely would have made for wonderful photos if I wasn't too worried about losing my phone.
Most guests also go horseback riding but we were so tired after lunch that we opted to relax in the adventure center with a cold beverage until it was time to depart. Hacienda Guachipelín offers the full package—adventure, nature, and a touch of rustic charm that makes it a standout in the Guanacaste region.
