Pu Luong Nature Reserve was established in 1999. Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, is 180 kilometers to the southwest of it. The National Park of Cuc Phuong borders it on the south and Hoa Binh on the north. It is located in the districts of Quan Hoa and Ba Thuoc in the province of Thanh Hoa. The reserve covers 17,662 hectares in total, with tropical forests making up two-thirds of the area. It boasts the largest forest area in Northern Vietnam's Karts.
