Day 1: Kodiak | Fly Katmai Wilderness Lodge

From Kodiak this morning you are met and transferred to your float plane for the short 45-minute flight to the lodge. Settled on the shores of the Pacific Ocean, the lodge offers a very remote and exclusive location for viewing bears searching for food in the ocean's waves. Over 700 species of plant life are found in this area, including many native berries. Combine the berries with the readily available salmon and clams from the rivers or coastline, and you find yourself in premium bear habitat!

Settle into your rustic yet comfortable cabins before setting out on your first bear-viewing excursions with your guide this afternoon. Meals are served for all guests in the main lodge building with complimentary beer and wine. The lodge's experienced chef treats your palate to wonderful cuisine each evening.

Day 2-3: Guided Bear-Viewing Excursions

  • Hotel
  • 2 Breakfasts, 2 Lunches, 2 Dinners
Spend your each day as you wish! The lodge's experienced guides are available to take you out on bear-viewing excursions everyday. Short hikes are available around the lodge and immediate beach area, but beyond that you will want to go with your guide. This area is wild and bear country! The main 'hiking trails' are truly bear trails.

Explore the bay in front of the lodge, or go in the boat for short rides to neighboring bays to view the bears wherever they happen to be. The wildlife in this area is plentiful. Aside from bears, spend your time spotting sea otters, seals, and fox. Some guests have even spotted moose, wolves, whales, orcas, lynx, sea lions, and mountain goats. You never know what sightings you're bound to see each day, but this remote Alaska wilderness does not disappoint - 42 species of mammals live in the park, and bird enthusiasts are delighted at the many sightings of puffins, ducks, geese, kittiwakes, shorebirds, and bald eagles. Settle each night into your comfortable and secure cabin.

Day 4: Return Kodiak | Home

  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch
Spend this morning on excursions searching for your last viewings of wildlife before you return to Kodiak this afternoon. Connect with your return flight to another city in Alaska (connecting flights must depart Kodiak at 4:45 PM or later).
