Day 1: Embarking on Aqua Nera
Today marks the beginning of an exciting adventure as we embark on a four-day journey aboard the luxurious Aqua Nera cruise ship, navigating the mystical waters of the Amazon River in Peru. After landing in Iquitos (a short flight from Lima) and transferring to the ships docking location in Natua, we recieve a warm welcome from the friendly crew, and we settle into our spacious suites, each elegantly designed with panoramic windows offering breathtaking views of the surrounding rainforest. The ship exudes sophistication and comfort, promising a truly immersive experience in the heart of the Amazon. Our expert bilingual naturalist guides introduce themselves, sharing their wealth of knowledge about the rich biodiversity and cultural heritage of this pristine ecosystem. There are only 13 people and we have two naturalist guides on board, and both of them grew up in the jungles around Iquitos so they have an intimate knowledge of the jungle surrounding us. Tonight, we enjoy a gourmet dinner prepared by the talented onboard chefs, featuring exquisite Peruvian cuisine infused with local flavors. With the soothing sounds of the river as our soundtrack, we drift off to sleep, eager for the adventures that await us tomorrow.
Day 2: Kayaking and Evening Boat Ride in the Amazon
The morning sun casts a golden glow over the Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve as we prepare for another day of exploration aboard Aqua Nera. After a delicious breakfast, we gear up for an exciting kayaking adventure through the intricate waterways of the Amazon.
With paddles in hand, we set out in small groups, gliding silently along the tranquil surface of the river. The lush greenery of the rainforest envelopes us, creating a sense of serenity as we navigate through hidden channels and winding creeks.
As we paddle deeper into the heart of the reserve, our senses come alive with the sights and sounds of the jungle. We spot colorful birds flitting among the treetops and curious monkeys peering down from the branches above. The occasional splash alerts us to the presence of playful pink dolphins darting through the water.
Back on the ship, we enjoy a cooking class and learn how to make delicious cocktails out of the local liquor, pisco. Later, we listen to the guide's presentation about tribes in the Amazon. Our main guide actually grew up in a tribe located deep in the Amazon, only reached via multiple days via speedboat.
As the sun dips below the horizon, casting a warm glow over the Amazon, a sense of anticipation fills the air aboard Aqua Nera. Tonight, we embark on a unique adventure—a nighttime jungle skiff cruise through the mysterious waters of the rainforest. The guides prepare the skiffs, and we are off, drinks in hand!
As we glide along the river, the jungle comes alive with a symphony of nocturnal sounds. The chorus of frogs fills the air with their melodic calls, while the occasional hoot of an owl echoes through the trees. Tonight, we drift off to sleep with hearts full of wonder, knowing that the Amazon holds endless secrets waiting to be discovered.
