Explore the Arctic on this special 8-day whale watching expedition on the Noorderlicht! During the last few years, there have been increasing numbers of orcas and humpback whales in Troms (Northern Norway). They feed on the wintering herring in the fjords from Kvaløya (early winter) to Andfjorden (late winter). This voyage is dedicated to meeting these giants of the seas.
Involves minimal physical effort and is typically associated with leisurely activities. Activities are low-intensity or last less than a few hours each day.
Arrive at the airport of Evenes and take a scheduled bus (not included in cruise fare) to the port of Harstad (Vesterålen). Embark Noorderlicht at 5:00pm.
In this morning, sail into Andfjord and to the northern end of Andöya where Orcas and Humpback Whales are beginning to appear. This is an area with excellent opportunities to sail under canvas. Further North you may have great chances to see more whales in the western fjords of Kvaløya and of the island of Senja, like Mefjorden, Øyfjorden, Kattfjorden and Ersfjorden. These are also good areas for observing White-Tailed Eagles. The crew will try to make landings on the island of Håja, which looks like a cathedral. Here, visit an old farm there and walk to the top of the mountain. Sommarøy has lovely beaches. At the north side, not hampered by false light, you may have a good view of the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights). Another good location to view the Aurora Borealis could be at the small pier of Esfjordsbotn. During the last days of this exploratory voyage, work your way South through Gisundet, the winding strait that separates Senja from the mainland. It is one of the most beautiful waterways of Norway. There is also the island of Tranøya, now deserted but still with a traditional 18th century wooden church.
This voyage take place in late autumn, when the days are short in Northern Norway. Be prepared for snow showers, and sometimes temperatures just above freezing. The autumn colors will be beautiful during the daytime. At night, when there is open sky you may be able to admire the Aurora Borealis. The Lofoten voyages are very dependent on the weather, which can be quite rough. Therefore the outline of the voyage, given above is just for guidance.

This was my first experience with Adventure Life - and I couldn't have been more pleased with the trip. The guides and local staff in both Buenos Aires and Uruguay were terrific - extremely helpful and accommodating. I really enjoyed meeting the friendly staff in Buenos Aires in person (I left my bags with them for the afternoon).

The response from Adventure Life to my first inquiry was prompt and promising. I worked with Jamie Broeckel, Trip Planner, via text, email, and phone calls- always extremely responsive and thorough with information and explaining the process to arrange a private tour for me to Malaysia Borneo. Within about week, the booking was complete and I made decisions because of Jamie's great customer service , friendly manner, and overall competence on behalf of the company's travel expertise. Now I have an itinerary, additional Trip Planner Assistants, several links for vital information for traveling to Maylasia, etc. Still many details for Sept. trip, but now the heavy lifting is done and I can enjoy the rest of the anticipation and research!! Thanks Jamie- you are amazing!!!!

The trip was not only memorable for the amount of animals we saw but also for the people and accommodations at the two camps where we stayed. Our first guide, BK, was a wealth of information about the animals, landscape and down to the plants and what they were used for. Everyday out was a learning experience with him. All the people at the camps were gracious and the food was excellent.
Our second camp in the Okavanga was just as good as the first as far as the staff, accommodations, food and animals. After our experience at the first camp we amazed that the high quality remained the same. Our guide, G, made sure we were able to enjoy every experience including a rush through the bush to witness a cheetah and an ensuing hunt that he heard over his radio.
In both camps there were enough guides out that if they saw something the other guides were informed which helped in seeing as much as possible. It was also nice that the concessions were large enough that we did not have vehicles following each other throughout the day.
Normally there is always something in a trip of this length that we think could be improved upon but this is the rare case where we cannot think of anything. From the time we left the States to when we returned it was one of the most hassle free vacations we took.
Perhaps emphasizing the use of the laundry facilities at the camps would be useful because of the luggage restrictions would be the only thing I can think of as an improvement to future clients.
