Take a journey into the jungles of Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary, established in 1990 and world renowned for being the first jaguar reserve. Explore the 128,000 acres of lush jungle ringed by the Spectacular Cockscomb Mountains on the series of nature hiking trails. Learn the natural history of the forest and birding, and with luck spot monkeys, tapirs, and other mammals. Hike up to a waterfall and enjoy a cooling swim on this fascinating jungle extension.
This tour departs at 7:30 a.m. for a drive of just over an hour to the beautiful park, Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary. This park has great hiking trails throughout the lush jungle. The morning will be spent hiking trails, learning the natural history of the forest and birding. On rare occasions one might spot howler monkeys, tapir, peccary or other mammals. After a sack lunch, there is the opportunity to hike up to the waterfall and take a cooling swim in the pool. We will return to Placencia about 5:00 p.m. Overnight at a comfortable hotel in Placencia.

Our guide and driver were very good with their knowledge and were very helpful with our questions. It was a very pleasant visit that would have been impossible to do on our own. Hotels and restaurants were fantastic. The special places we got to go to, like the kitchens, were great. Enjoyed the entire trip!
