Set off on a week long adventure kayaking the southern barrier reef of Belize. Start with instructional and safety information before setting out to paddle over submerged coral reefs and through mangroves at Tobacco Caye. Learn to sail your kayak as you make your way to Southwater Caye. With the shallow waters you'll be able to see a tremendous amount of marine life from atop your kayak. If that isn't close enough, go for a snorkel or dive on the inner and outer walls.

Day 1: Arrive Belize

Arrive at the Belize International Airport where you will be met by an Island Expeditions representative and transferred to the  Bocawina Rainforest Lodge in the foothills of the Maya Mountains. This boutique lodge in the midst of a 700 acre Bocawina National Park offers a quintessential tropical rainforest experience. After settling into your forest cabanas you have a chance to meet your fellow travelers over dinner in the rainforest at the acclaimed Wild Fig restaurant.

Day 2-3: Tobacco Caye

  • Hotel
  • 2 Breakfasts, 2 Lunches, 2 Dinners
Waking up to the sounds of the tropics is a pure delight with the chatter of parrots and parakeets overhead. We travel the scenic Hummingbird Highway through the rainforest to the coast and then by water taxi to the southern barrier reef of Belize. To begin, guides provide professional instruction - teaching sea kayaking, snorkeling, and safety in tropical waters before heading out on the water.

We stay two nights on Glovers Reef Basecamp. This is our tropical paradise to snorkel, sea kayak and paddleboard. For our stay on Glovers Reef Basecamp, expect to be pampered by our staff with delicious food and enjoy perfect days of turquoise clear waters, coral reefs and a full range of activities to choose from each day

Day 4-6: Southwater Caye Exploring

  • Hotel
  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Enjoy plenty of time to kayak snorkel, fish and enjoy the scenery and marine life of Belize. Explore different regions of the reef including the inner and outer walls, patch and fringing reefs, mangrove ranges and protected lagoons. For divers, you can arrange dives as requested and for those who’d like to try out diving, you can arrange Discover Scuba courses with prior notice. As you explore by kayak, the routes often cross those of the fishermen who make their living from the sea and with this interaction we gain good company and an insight into a way of life that is very different from our own.

Staying on beautiful Southwater Caye Marine Reserve on the Southern Barrier Reef. Tobacco Caye Paradise Lodge, our playground for the next two days is a fairy-tale setting of palm trees, coral islands, mangrove forests and abundant coral reefs. We have plentiful time to kayak, snorkel, paddleboard and enjoy the spectacular scenery and marine life of the seldom traveled southern barrier reef.

Day 7: Return Home

  • 1 Breakfast
After an early breakfast your water taxi carries us back to the mainland and the town of Dangriga where the trip finishes. Any extra luggage that you have stored at the operations base, will be made available to you to repack and taxis can be arranged to your connecting flight to the Belize International Airport, or local bus stations to continue exploring Belize.

Our guide and driver were very good with their knowledge and were very helpful with our questions. It was a very pleasant visit that would have been impossible to do on our own. Hotels and restaurants were fantastic. The special places we got to go to, like the kitchens, were great. Enjoyed the entire trip!
