Guests can enjoy a variety of fun camp activities that help protect the park's natural environment and also benefit the local communities.
Hiking
This is a great way to learn about the local wildlife and the threats to the park, such as illegal logging, poaching, and habitat loss. You can join a guided tour on some of the park’s trails or explore on your own using the well-marked paths around the camp.
If you're staying for more than two nights, you can join Forest Rangers on a deeper patrol to remote parts of the park. Longer stays also give you the freedom to explore the forest, mangroves, and river areas on your own or with an experienced guide. You can go hiking, kayaking, or wildlife watching.
Kayaking
This is an exciting way to explore the Preak Tachan River and its smaller branches. You can go alone or with a guide.
While staying at Cardamom Tented Camp, you can visit Preak Tachan Station by hiking through the forest for 2.5 hours (3.1 km) or by kayaking up the river for 2 hours (4 km). Kayaking offers the chance to see rare animals, like the smooth-coated otter, or unique birds like the night heron, woolly-necked stork, green peafowl, great hornbill, and Oriental pied hornbill. As evening falls, keep an eye out for whooping gibbons in the trees along the river—it's an exciting experience for any kayaker.
Jungle Camp
For a more adventurous experience, try our Jungle Camp package. After spending one night at our luxury ecolodge, you'll trek through old poaching and logging trails to a remote riverside campsite. The site, surrounded by thick woodland, features Tentsile Tree Tents.
You can relax by swimming in the river and enjoying the jungle views or exploring the many trails to discover the rich plant and animal life. On your last morning, you'll hike to the ranger station for breakfast, where you can see equipment confiscated from poachers and loggers, including traps, hunting rifles, and chainsaws. Afterward, you'll kayak down the Preak Tachan River back to Cardamom Tented Camp.
