Day 1 Arrive Phnom Penh

Arrive to Phnom Penh where you are met by your guide and drive to your hotel for the evening.

Day 2 Explore Phnom Penh | On to Sihanoukville

Spend the morning exploring Phnom Penh. This city is the epitome of 'old Asia' with beautiful historic buildings, aromatic street food, and varied markets. Visit the Royal Palace and the Silver Pagoda, whose remains from its destruction under Pol Pot are still very impressive and the site contains many objects which embody the brilliance of the Khmer civilization. Enjoy lunch at the Friends Restaurant, which provides under-privileged street children an opportunity to gain experience in a hospitality business.

This afternoon you set out on the 4 hour drive south to the shores of Sihanoukville. Check in to your new hotel and settle in for the day.

Day 3 Explore Koh Rong Samloen

After breakfast transfer to the pier to board your boat for the day. Set out to explore what is arguably the most beautiful island in Cambodia, Koh Rong Samloem. En route you pass other picturesque islands such as Koh Tas, where you stop for an hour to swim and snorkel. Enjoy a buffet lunch here before continuing on to Koh Rong Samloem. This is the second largest island in the chain boasting a 3 miles (5 km) white sand beach along with mountains, waterfalls and freshwater streams that run down to the ocean. Spend the rest of the day here before heading back to the mainland late afternoon.

Day 4 Fly Siem Reap

Enjoy a free morning today along the beach. Mid-afternoon you drive to the airport for your flight on to Siem Reap. Check in to your new hotel and enjoy a leisurely evening.

Day 5 Siem Reap Temple Biking

Rise early this morning to drive to where you will hop on your bike for ride along road and quiet trails of the temples of Angkor today. Bike just about 18 miles (28 km) today as you explore the most important religious monument in Cambodia, watching the sun rise over the triple towers of Angkor Wat. Leave your bikes for a picnic breakfast and to wander through the temples on foot as you go. Explore the magnificent temples of the Khmer Empire including, Angkor Thom, Bayon Temple and the Elephant terrace. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant with a view of Sra Srang Lake. Ride next to Ta Prohm, commonly known as 'the jungle temple' whose massive tree roots are attempting to reclaim the ancient ruins. Return to Siem Reap early afternoon and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 6 Country Cooking & Banteay Srey

Set out early this morning to the wroksrai Khmer (Cambodian countryside) for a leisurely bike and to learn a few of the signature dishes from a local Cambodian family. First go shopping at a local market for ingredients and then cycle to the family house in the countryside. Start cooking the dishes you’ll enjoy together with the family during lunch. Ride through rice fields and small villages. On any given day you may learn about local village life, visit a school, see catfish being smoked, or speak to a fisherman while they are preparing their nets. If you are interested you can stop and pay a visit to some of these traditional Khmer houses and pagodas or chat with the local people.

This afternoon take a scenic drive to Banteay Srey, loosely translated as "Citadel of Women." It houses some of the finest and best-preserved examples of classical Khmer bas-relief. The walls are densely covered with some of the most beautiful and intricate carvings of any Angkorian temple. The temple's relatively small size, pink sandstone construction and ornate design give it a fairyland ambiance. Return to Siem Reap in the late afternoon.

This was our first trip to South America and we were a little nervous. But Adventure Life made things so easy! All our questions were answered before we left, and our guide, Vidal, was amazing! He gave us enough space to explore without rushing us along. He also knew where the best picture taking opportunities were, which was great.
