Located on the waterfront in Desolation Sound, the resort offers an immersive experience that combines Indigenous culture with eco-adventure. Surrounded by the lush temperate rainforest, the resort is between the Salish Sea and the Coast Mountains, along the remote Homfray Channel. This region is known as "Thee chum mi yich," or "further back inside," in the Klahoose language.

Klahoose Wilderness Resort is an award-winning Indigenous eco-resort located in the heart of British Columbia. Tucked deep within the remote Desolation Sound region of British Columbia, Klahoose Wilderness Resort offers an intimate and authentic escape into the wild beauty of Canada’s Pacific coast. Set amid lush rainforest, soaring peaks, and tranquil turquoise waters, this eco-friendly, all-inclusive lodge owned by Indigenous peoples provides a rich experience that intertwines comfort, culture, and a deep connection to nature. Accessible only by boat or seaplane, the resort offers a sense of seclusion and adventure that few destinations can match.

The Main Lodge: The heart of the resort is the cedar lodge, built in traditional West Coast style with natural wood accents, vaulted ceilings, and expansive windows that frame sweeping views of the Homfray Channel. The lodge’s spacious open-plan design features a cozy lounge with a stone fireplace, inviting guests to gather, share stories, and enjoy a warm sense of community. Meals are served in the dining area overlooking the water, where long harvest-style tables create a welcoming atmosphere for conversation and connection. Outside, a large deck offers the perfect vantage point to watch the shifting tides, spot seals and eagles, or soak in the tranquil wilderness.

Accommodations: The resort offers lodge rooms, which are located in or close to the main lodge. For guests seeking privacy and serenity, the resort offers comfortable private cabins nestled in the forest near the lodge. Each room is designed with rustic charm and modern touches, providing a balance between cozy seclusion and access to resort amenities. All rooms feature comfortable bedding, private bathrooms, and large windows that draw in natural light and the sights and sounds of the surrounding wilderness. The cabins feature outdoor seating areas for guests to relax, listening to loons or watching the sunset over the inlet.

Dining: Your stay at Klahoose Wilderness Resort includes all meals, beginning with dinner on arrival and ending with breakfast on departure. Menus are fresh, local, and thoughtfully planned. Due to the resort's remote location, dietary requirements must be communicated beforehand in order to accommodate your needs.

The culinary program draws inspiration from the nutrient-rich Salish Sea, the farm-to-table culture of coastal British Columbia, and the wild bounty of rainforest foraging. Every dish reflects the flavors, traditions, and essence of this coast and its people. Meals are designed to match your day’s adventures and served with relaxed and personal hospitality. Everyday menus offer a range of choices, all made with sustainable, fresh ingredients to suit any palate.

Cultural Experience: A stay at Klahoose Wilderness Resort is more than just a retreat; it’s an immersion in nature and Indigenous culture. Klahoose tradition is used to welcome guests as soon as they arrive, setting the tone for the rest of the trip. Cultural interpreters welcome visitors onto the land with warmth and respect, inviting them into a space where stories, songs, and teachings are passed down with care.
  • Storytelling sessions illuminate the deep history of the Toba Inlet and Desolation Sound, recounting legends, place names, and the values woven into the landscape.
  • Traditional songs and drumming echo through the lodge, connecting guests to the heartbeat of the community.
  • Cultural workshops and demonstrations provide hands-on opportunities to learn about carving, weaving, or the significance of local art and design.
  • Guests are invited to reflect on the Klahoose worldview, where land, water, and wildlife are inseparable from identity and community.
  • Take a seasonal viewing tour of Toba Inlet, one of the area's most pristine wildlife areas, to see grizzly bears in their original habitat.
  • Explore Desolation Sound by kayak or boat, paddling through calm waters rich with marine life.
  • Discover hidden waterfalls, ancient forests, and secluded coves on guided hikes and nature walks.
  • Stargaze in the clear coastal skies, far from the interference of city lights.
This cultural dimension turns a wilderness retreat into a profound encounter with Indigenous knowledge and stewardship. The experience is immersive yet deeply personal, offering opportunities for both adventure and tranquility. Whether seeking encounters with wildlife, cultural enrichment, or quiet moments of reflection in nature, every guest leaves with a profound connection to this extraordinary place.

All tours are led by Klahoose cultural ambassadors and indigenous guides who share the rich language, songs, legends, and stories of their ancestors. Every experience, from springtime eco-adventures to fall grizzly bear viewing, demonstrates strong dedication to sustainability, Indigenous customs, and environmental stewardship.

Why Stay Here? Klahoose Wilderness Resort offers more than a wilderness getaway; it’s a cultural journey, a chance to experience the land through the eyes of its traditional stewards while enjoying the comfort of an eco-lodge. Perfect for travelers who value authentic experiences, sustainability, and natural beauty.

Winter Season: November - March

Winters on British Columbia’s west coast are mild, with brief snowfalls that quickly melt away, revealing the natural beauty of the season. Due to the micro-hydro power system, the off-grid Klahoose Wilderness Resort is closed during the winter, but the area remains stunning. After spending the winter at their breeding grounds in Mexico and Hawaii, humpback whales return to the waters by March. Winter daytime temperatures range from 1 to 7°C (33-44°F), providing a peaceful and scenic experience along the BC coast.

Spring Season: April - June
Spring on the Pacific Coast offers breathtaking scenery with lush rainforests, waterfalls, and snow-capped mountains. The resort opens in May, an ideal time for wildlife enthusiasts, with grizzly and black bears feeding along the shoreline, humpback whales, and migrating birds in winter plumage. You can also spot large sea lions before they head to breeding grounds in Alaska and California. Daytime temperatures range from 7 to 18°C (44-65°F), making spring ideal for outdoor exploration and wildlife viewing.

Summer Season: July - August
Summer at Klahoose Wilderness Resort unfolds in abundance, with endless daylight illuminating the coast. Rainforests glow in vivid green, rugged shorelines frame sparkling waters, and wildlife gather in remarkable numbers. This is the height of whale season, when orcas and humpbacks travel the fjords alongside porpoises, seals, and soaring eagles. Mild temperatures between 13 and 22°C (55 and 72°F) set the stage for adventure; paddle calm waters by kayak, dive into the ocean for a refreshing swim, or wander cedar-scented trails draped in moss. As the sun dips, the sky burns with color before giving way to a quiet, star-filled night. At Klahoose, summer blends adventure and serenity, offering the coast’s wild beauty at its most radiant.

Fall Season: September - October

At Klahoose Wilderness Resort, the famous salmon run up Toba Inlet begins in the fall, bringing grizzly bears to the rivers for a salmon feast that has been a part of Klahoose culture for centuries. Guided grizzly bear viewing from the special fixed platforms is available to guests who are visiting in the fall, providing a unique chance to get up close and personal with these magnificent creatures. Daytime temperatures range from 10 to 18°C (50-65°F), making fall a comfortable and awe-inspiring time to witness this timeless wildlife event.
