Spanning more than 1,700 miles (2,800 km), the Route of the Parks of Patagonia links 17 national parks and offers travelers a unique opportunity to explore the region’s rich biodiversity, dramatic scenery, and vibrant local cultures — whether by car, boat, bike, or on foot.

What Is the Route of the Parks?
The Route of the Parks is a protected corridor that runs from Puerto Montt in northern Patagonia to Cape Horn in the far south. The route weaves through three main regions: Los Lagos, Aysén, and Magallanes. It includes iconic parks like Cerro Castillo and Torres del Paine.

Created to support conservation and eco-tourism, the route highlights Chile’s commitment to preserving nature while offering life-changing travel experiences.

When to Go
The best time to travel is during the Patagonian summer, from November to March. During these months, you’ll enjoy longer days, milder temperatures, and better trail conditions. However, be prepared for changing weather — Patagonia is known for its unpredictability.

How to Travel the Route
You can explore the Route of the Parks in many ways, depending on your time and travel style:
  • Guided Tours: Ideal for those who want a curated experience with local knowledge. You can find multi-day tours that include lodging, transport, meals, and guided hikes.
  • Hiking and Backpacking: There are numerous trails in each park ranging from easy walks to challenging multi-day treks. Popular hikes include the W Trek in Torres del Paine and the trails of Cerro Castillo.

Wildlife and Nature Highlights
This region is home to an incredible variety of wildlife. As you hike and explore, you might see pumas, guanacos, Andean condors, and even dolphins along the coast. The landscapes are just as impressive — think glaciers, fjords, ancient forests, and volcanic peaks.

Respect and Responsibility
Patagonia is wild and fragile. When visiting, follow Leave No Trace principles, stay on marked trails, and support local communities by choosing local guides and eco-friendly accommodations.
