Take a 15-minute flight from Beira to Chitengo Airstrip in Gorongosa National Park, then transfer to your riverside safari lodge.

Your base for the next five nights sits on the banks of the Mussicadzi River, with East African-style canvas tents, each with an en-suite bathroom and a private deck. Settle in, cool off in the pool, or take in the views from the dining area and lounge before the evening campfire.

Spend four full days exploring Gorongosa National Park with the lodge's guides. Head out on morning and afternoon safari drives, with no more than six guests per vehicle, and set aside a day for the full-day explorer drive deeper into the park. Guided walking safaris bring you closer to the bush on foot, and in season, boating and canoeing outings, including boat safaris on Lake Urema, show you the park from the water.

Visit the park's Restoration Project to learn about its science, community, and conservation initiatives, and meet the Pangolin Project team to watch pangolins foraging in the wild. Between outings, relax by the pool or around the campfire. The lodge also offers massage, yoga, cultural visits, and cycling tours, which may carry an additional cost.

Trade the bush for the beach today. Transfer back to Chitengo Airstrip for your flight to Vilankulo, then hop across to Benguerra Island on a 10-minute flight to the resort's helipad. The island sits within a marine national park, with white-sand beaches and turquoise water crisscrossed by local dhows.

Check in to your beach bungalow at an eco-friendly island resort that was hand-built by the local community and is operated in partnership with it. Villas line the shoreline, and the lounge, bar, and restaurant open directly onto the sand. Toast your arrival with the sunset cocktail of the day.

Spend four days settling into island life at your own pace. Paddle out by kayak or stand-up paddleboard, ride across the island on a scenic Land Rover drive, and sail at sunset aboard a traditional dhow. Each evening brings the sunset cocktail of the day, and clear nights are made for stargazing.

Mozambican hosts look after you throughout, and meals feature fish and seafood fresh from the ocean.
