The fabulously bright, red and white Oyster Box Hotel is a five star luxury hotel located on the seafront in Umhlanga, approximately 20 kilometres north of Durban. Perfectly placed on the ocean’s edge opposite Umhlanga’s iconic red and white lighthouse, the Oyster Box boasts breath-taking sea views and exudes classical charm, elegance and romance.
This distinguished hotel has 85 sea or garden facing rooms and suites. All are individually decorated and exceptionally comfortable. With superb attention to detail room features include fresh flowers and fruit, air-conditioning and ceiling fans, a selection of magazines and books, complimentary mineral water, tea and coffee station, satellite TV with movies on demand, bathrobes and slippers, soap and pillow menu, heated towel rails and beach gear. The Oyster Box retains some historical charm with the tiled sign at the entrance, the swing doors, the black and white floors and the spiral staircase. The public areas include state of the art facilities from the timeless reception, to the plantation style Palm Court, the sleeker Oyster Bar, the glass roofed wine cellar, oversized chandeliers, the funky upstairs Lighthouse and Chukka Bar (gentleman’s Club), the award winning Spa or the gloriously positioned swimming pool. The Kids Holiday Club is ideal for families, there is a private cinema, and no visit is complete without a spectacular terrace breakfast.
The Oyster Box Hotel has direct access to the Umhlanga promenade and onto a small beach for warm Indian Ocean swims.
This was my first experience with Adventure Life - and I couldn't have been more pleased with the trip. The guides and local staff in both Buenos Aires and Uruguay were terrific - extremely helpful and accommodating. I really enjoyed meeting the friendly staff in Buenos Aires in person (I left my bags with them for the afternoon).
