Day 1: Malaga, Spain | Embark

Malaga’s fortress palace of the Alcazaba and the Castillo de Gibralfaro stand as splendid examples of Moorish architecture. However, the most romantic and magnificent expression of the Arabesque style is found in Granada within the glorious Alhambra Palace.

Day 2: At Sea

Each Star Clippers ship offers a traditional and elegant way to see the world. Feel the wind fill the sails and gently carry you from one gorgeous destination to the next. During your time on board, you can choose to relax on a sun lounger or cool off in one of the pools on the top deck, while more adventurous passengers may enjoy the opportunity to climb the rigging or even have a go at steering the ship. Alternatively, you can wander the interior areas of the ship and discover relaxing lounges, and a peaceful library.

Day 3: Casablanca, Morocco

Long before Ingrid Bergman and Bogie made Casablanca a symbol for romance, the city was famous for intrigue and mystery. Veiled by overlapping mantles of French, Arabian and African culture, Casablanca reveals new faces at every turn. The enormous Hassan II Mosque (holding 70,000 worshippers) is the new Morocco, while the fanciful Mauresque buildings in the Medina impart visions of pre-war Casablanca.

Day 4: Safi, Morocco

Safi is an industrial center and thriving port. Most tourists use it a base to take excursions to Marrakech ou Essaouira or explore the old town. Here you may be tempted to buy pottery typical of this part of the region.

Day 5: At Sea

During your time on board, you can choose to relax on a sun lounger or cool off in one of the pools on the top deck, while more adventurous passengers may enjoy the opportunity to climb the rigging or even have a go at steering the ship. Alternatively, you can wander the interior areas of the ship and discover relaxing lounges, and a peaceful library.

Day 6: Arrecife, Canary Islands, Spain

Arrecife is the diverse and interesting capital of Lanzarote. It has a striking golden sand beach which is sheltered by a reef and a great selection of bars and restaurants. Worth a visit is The Castillo de San Gabriel in the center with it's impressive drawbridge that was constructed in 1599 to help defend against pirate attacks. The gorgeous little La Recova market is tucked away and there is a selection of artisan craft shops together with a fresh food market on the weekdays.

Day 7: Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain

The island of Tenerife is bisected by steep volcanic mountains cut by garden-like valleys lush with flowers and vegetation. In the capital of Santa Cruz' anthropological museum, learn about the original inhabitants of Tenerife, the stone age Guanche people. Not to be missed is a spectacular drive into the mountains, where 3,718-meter Mount Teide, Spain's tallest mountain, is covered in snow much of the year.

Day 8: Las Palmas, Canary Islands, Spain

This 15th-century city with a semitropical colonial ambience is a favorite stopping place for yachts crossing the Atlantic. Visit the Casa Colon, named for the great explorer, and do some exploring of your own by adventuring to the volcanic crater of Caldera de Bandama. Its lunar landscape and exotic vegetation take you to a new world.

Day 9: Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain

The island of Tenerife is bisected by steep volcanic mountains cut by garden-like valleys lush with flowers and vegetation. In the capital of Santa Cruz' anthropological museum, learn about the original inhabitants of Tenerife, the stone age Guanche people. Not to be missed is a spectacular drive into the mountains, where 3,718-meter Mount Teide, Spain's tallest mountain, is covered in snow much of the year.

Day 10-22: At Sea

Each Star Clippers ship offers a traditional and elegant way to see the world. Feel the wind fill the sails and gently carry you from one gorgeous destination to the next. During your time on board, you can choose to relax on a sun lounger or cool off in one of the pools on the top deck, while more adventurous passengers may enjoy the opportunity to climb the rigging or even have a go at steering the ship. Alternatively, you can wander the interior areas of the ship and discover relaxing lounges, and a peaceful library.

Day 23: Bridgetown, Barbados | Disembark

  • 1 Breakfast
On the wild and rugged east coast of Barbados, the isolated beaches are the color of sunrise, the red sands having blown all the way across the Atlantic from the Sahara. The easternmost island of the Windwards, and indeed, of the entire Caribbean, reaches out to Africa and the Old World, as if not quite part of the New. Bridgetown, Barbados, is an interesting town full of contrasts. George Washington actually slept here! Trafalgar Square reminds you that the laidback, rum- and fun-loving island's British influenced heritage includes revered traditions like cricket and high tea.

Disembark after breakfast and continue your independent trip back home.

The trip might have been the absolute best of our lifetime (thus far). We particularly want to commend our guide Peter in the Guilin area-he was so incredibly attentive, energetic, enthusiastic-and absolutely dedicated to ensuring that our meals were 100% vegetarian.
