Tamarind Village Chiang Mai organizes a rotating schedule of cultural activities designed to share northern Thailand’s craft traditions with guests. Each day highlights a different art form, from umbrella painting to herbal wellness practices, offering hands-on ways to connect with the region’s heritage. Kindly note that the programme is subject to change, and one activity may be substituted for another without prior notice.
Monday: Painted Umbrellas
Learn the local art of decorating paper umbrellas, a tradition with roots in nearby Bo-sang Village. Create your own design using vibrant colors and floral or bird motifs for a memorable keepsake.
Tuesday: Banana and Lotus Leaf Folding
Discover how banana leaves are shaped into decorative pieces for celebrations and how lotus petals are folded into delicate forms for temple offerings.
Wednesday: Pandan Leaf Flowers
Explore how pandan leaves are used in daily life and practice folding them into ornamental flowers, often seen as temple offerings or household decorations.
Thursday: Flower Garlands
Try your hand at weaving jasmine and other blossoms into garlands, a craft that plays an important role in Thai hospitality and religious traditions.
Friday: Herbal Compress Making
Work with fragrant local herbs like lemongrass, turmeric, and kaffir lime to prepare a traditional compress, once used for soothing aches and restoring balance.
Saturday: Tung Flag Crafting
Cut and shape colorful paper into decorative flags, a symbol often seen in northern Thai festivals, especially during Songkran, when temple grounds are filled with them.
The Village Walk (Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Sunday – 10:00 to 12:00)
Join a guided stroll through nearby lanes to visit temples and historic landmarks around the old city. The walk also includes an opportunity to make merit alongside local residents at a neighborhood temple. Advance registration is required.
