The journey began as I left Michigan with the kids and flew through Detroit and Seattle to get to Juneau, Alaska. The scenery wasn’t too different from what we see in Montana, but I was in awe of how lush and green everything was, knowing that Montana would be in full ‘summer brown’ by now. My husband flew in later that night, after the kids were already asleep - it was my first time seeing in since we began our overall summer travels 5 weeks earlier!
The next morning, finally as a complete family again, we set out to explore Juneau. It was in the 50s and raining, but we didn’t let that stop us. We walked the waterfront trail, strolled the streets of downtown, and tried the local fare. Juneau, Alaska (Erin Correia)
At Jellyfish donuts, we had the chance to try a salmon donut ????, which was better than it sounds. For lunch, we found a neat food truck area, with lots of covered outdoor seating around fires. We had fish and chips and fish tacos and both were delicious! Jellyfish Donuts in Juneau, Alaska (Erin Correia)Food truck pod in Juneau, Alaska (Erin Correia)
Mid-afternoon, it was time to head to our ship: the Chichagof Dream. The ship holds just over 80 passengers (though we only had just over 40 on board), and is the perfect base for an Alaskan adventure! Chichagof Dream (Erin Correia)
The amazing crew welcomed us on board with drinks, and we settled in to our fantastic interconnected cabins as we set sail on the inside passage.
