A trip to the Antarctic Peninsula is a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. While cruising through this frozen world, you'll have many chances to step ashore and explore. Some places are only reachable by small boats called Zodiacs, while others let you walk on islands or even the actual continent of Antarctica.

Here are the different types of landing sites you may visit in Antarctica:

Zodiac-Only Excursions
Zodiacs are strong, inflatable boats used to explore areas that are too icy or shallow for your ship. These short boat rides give you close-up views of icebergs, glaciers, and wildlife.
  • Cierva Cove: Cruise through floating chunks of ice and look for seals resting on them. You may also see snowy cliffs and lots of seabirds flying overhead.
  • Orne Harbour: This calm bay is surrounded by mountains. You’ll likely see chinstrap penguins and might even spot whales swimming nearby.
  • Paradise Harbour: True to its name, this is one of the most beautiful places in Antarctica. Watch glaciers crack and float, and keep your eyes out for penguins and whales.
Continental Landings
This is when you actually set foot on the continent of Antarctica—not just the nearby islands. It’s a big highlight for many travelers!
  • Neko Harbour: Walk on the icy ground of Antarctica and enjoy views of giant glaciers. You might see gentoo penguins waddling around and seals resting on the snow.
  • Brown Station: Visit a small research station run by Argentina. You can also hike up a hill for amazing views of the surrounding ice and sea.

Island Landings
Most landings take place on islands near the Antarctic Peninsula. These islands are full of wildlife and beautiful landscapes.
  • Cuverville Island: This small island has one of the largest gentoo penguin colonies in the region. It’s a great place to take photos of penguins and snowy hills.
  • Deception Island: This is actually a volcano! The island has black sand beaches and warm spots where the underground heat escapes. You can walk along the shore and explore old whaling stations.
  • Half Moon Island: A quiet and pretty island with chinstrap penguins, fur seals, and scenic views. It’s a great spot for peaceful walks.
What to Expect
Antarctica is wild, remote, and peaceful. Every day is different, depending on the weather and ice conditions. Your crew will choose the best landing spots each day, so you get the most out of your trip.
  • You’ll explore by Zodiac: Most landings start with a Zodiac ride from your ship to the shore.
  • You’ll see lots of wildlife: Penguins, seals, whales, and seabirds are common sights.
  • You’ll need warm clothes: Waterproof boots and layered clothing will keep you warm and dry.
Visiting the Antarctic Peninsula is a magical experience. Whether you’re cruising among icebergs, walking with penguins, or simply taking in the frozen views, every landing is a chance to discover something new.
