Beagle Channel, Penguin Colony, Hike on Gable Island

Once again, a wonderful continental breakfast. I love the fresh fruit, pastries, warm bread and tea in the morning. I was picked up at 8:00AM for a full day adventure to canoe the Beagle Channel and hike on Gabel Island. Canal Fun operated the tour. I was very impressed with the knowledge of their guides. Our canoes were actually small inflatable boats that sat up to four people. Our group split up into the women's team, them men's team, and the two odd men out. The women were stronger… We saw many varieties of birds on our canoe trip. After a couple hours, we happily paddled into a cove where we were met by the trucks. We were taken to a boat where we had tasty sandwiches, fruit, wine and cookies. Then we were taken to a penguin colony on our way to Gable Island. We commenced hiking and learned quite a bit about the local ecology and natural history of the area. Our day ended with a long car ride on a dirt road -- stopping to view Condors -- then onto Ushuaia. I was dropped off at my hotel for another night's rest.
