As you make the way towards Greenland you’ll become among a privileged few to visit the world’s largest island. Greenland’s wilderness offers some of the most spectacular and unspoiled scenery on Earth.
Spend two days cruising and exploring Greenland’s magnificent East Coast Fjords, the world’s largest fjord system. Cruise among glorious icebergs and active volcanoes and feel the spray of thundering waterfalls. Kaiser Franz Josef Fjord, a remote and rarely visited fjord system and featuring some of the most spectacular tundras in the region offers countless opportunities for exploration. Together with Kong Oskar Fjord, guests will experience vast stretches of tranquil waters, stunning scenery and a myriad of wildlife spotting opportunities.
North-East Greenland is home to Greenlands National Park –the largest in the world at 972,000km2, with less than 40 humans in habitats but a magical world of wildlife.
Enjoy excursions exploring by Zodiac, looking for musk ox, Arctic hare and Eider ducks, or discover old trappers huts on hikes across the tundra. Conditions permitting, there will be a good chance for kayakers to paddle the waterways.
The Svalbard Archipelago’s rugged glaciers and frozen tundras are a fragile and remote area of vast environmental significance, while Spitsbergen is the largest island. Due to the extraordinary nature of the region, the sailing and expedition schedule is flexible. Your experienced Captain and Discovery Leader will use their expertise to design this section of the voyage from day to day, making the most of the long daylight hours, weather and ice conditions to give the best experience possible in this extraordinary part of the world. The Scenic Eclipse voyage sails in at a prime time for wildlife spotting, and there will be opportunities to spot the dominant predators of the region including the Polar bear. Marine species in the area include the carefully protected walrus with its characteristic tusks and several species of whales. Once hunted almost out of existence in a region now transformed into a dedicated conservation area, your encounters with these giants of the sea will be a memory to treasure.
