The World Heritage-listed city of Valparaíso welcomes with its long and colorful history dating back to the conquistadors. This vibrant city is rich in theatre, music, performance and street art and exquisite Victorian architecture. Most streets, staircases, alleyways, and buildings are brightly painted.
Relaxation beckons with so many choices on board you will wonder how time passes so quickly. Choose one of the daily activities including a class in Scenic Epicure, join an entertaining discussion in the Theatre, or make time for your fitness regime.
At the very end of the Pan American highway is Puerto Montt, which is the starting point for a fabled land of fjords, canals, islands, snow-capped volcanoes, green-forested hills and the enchantment of Southern Chile. Puerto Montt is the perfect starting point to explore the German cities of Frutillar and Puerto Varas.
Freechoice: Visit Puerto Varas and Frutillar and see the beauty of these towns set in the middle of lakes and mountains. Alternatively, explore Osorno Volcano and Petrohué Falls, or choose to visit the Felmer Museum and Frutillar and learn about the German colonization of this area.
Visit Castro, where colorful wooden stilt houses line the waterfront and the Chilote culture is seen throughout the World Heritage-listed churches and architecture. Today choose one of the activities or excursions.
Freechoice:Explore Castro and two of the World Heritage-listed chapels or discover the village of Dalcahue and the island of Quinchao. Alternatively, see the farmlands and countryside on horseback.
Discovery:Travel to the Chiloé National Park and stroll the Tepual pathway through a forest of tepu.
Day 5: At Sea

While you sail towards Tortel, there will be plenty of time to relax and be entranced by the picturesque scenery you’ll encounter on your way.
Journey to one of the most spectacular locations in Southern Chile. Board a local catamaran and cruise into the Laguna San Rafael via a narrow opening revealing fantastic views of ice and the San Valentin Glacier. As a dramatic backdrop, the San Valentin Mountain rises from this massive ice field which is part of the Laguna San Rafael National Park.
Visit a coastal village, located between the mouth of the Baker River, the largest river in Chile, and a small embayment of the Baker Channel. The surrounding geography is rugged, formed by several islands, fjords, channels and estuaries. Cruise the Angostura Ingles (English Narrows) at the foot of the massive Darwin Cordillera mountain range, the majestic scenery and wildlife of the inner passages of the Chilean Channels is an assault on the senses. Watch from the Sun Terrace, the Observation Terrace or your private verandah as the Captain and local Chilean Pilot expertly maneuver Scenic Eclipse through the islands and channel markers of the English Narrows.
Not far from Patagonia, the city is located in the extreme south of Chile with a port and sheep-breeding history, the gateway into Antarctica will captivate you with its clean air and sophisticated European architecture.
Freechoice: Join a local guide for a walking tour of Punta Arenas, or visit the Magellan Strait Park and Fort Bulnes and learn the history of this area. Choose to step back in time with a visit to the Nao Victoria’s full-size replica of the Magellan’s ship at the Salesian Museum or visit an estancia and discover a new way of life.
The point where the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean meet, Cape Horn is steeped in maritime history and is the southernmost headland of the Tierra del Fuego archipelago and the southernmost tip of Chile. Weather permitting, landing on Cape Horn will show the true skill of your Captain, crew and the Discovery Team.

This was our first trip to South America and we were a little nervous. But Adventure Life made things so easy! All our questions were answered before we left, and our guide, Vidal, was amazing! He gave us enough space to explore without rushing us along. He also knew where the best picture taking opportunities were, which was great.

Adventure Life has been an extraordinary travel resource for us over the years and today was no exception. Our River Cruise booking was handled by Jess (who has been our personal trip planner for several years) the same day as our inquiry. Suggestions were given for cabin choice and pre-trip options (that were not shown on the cruise line's website) like airport transfers and prepaid gratuities. Trip insurance recommendations followed and we were assigned a travel co-ordinator till the end of the tour. All we have to do is show up! Great service from friendly folks.

Our travel was flawless! The rider pickup (airport, hotel, ship) was seamless. Jane's recommendation for Emerald Cruise Sakara was everything I wanted but the experience was soooo much more. Adventure Life took care of each and every detail and this was the easiest of all my travels.
